'26 VA RB Savion Hiter

I don't know about you, but I've always felt like 5 star RBs usually don't pan out well or they have reached their peak already and when they get to college, things don't go as planned. It's usually the 3/4 stars that end up being big time and making it to the NFL. Not always, as some 5 stars have done well, but more times than not, they have already reached their potential and don't turn out to be as good as we had hoped. So I'm not too upset about Hiter and tbh I'd rather have Walton. Really like him and that might be a way to get his brother as well. I feel like he would fit our system/scheme better.
Bored and looked it up. Since 2021 on3 only has 3 RBs listed as 5 stars. Texas has one from 2023 with no stats. I think he was injured. Penn St (I think from 2022) had 1100 yards this season. Michigan has one from 2021 that had 590 so it a mixed bag.

How many points do you get for running someone over? There's a time and a place for it of course, because sometimes there is no better option than to lower your pads. But trying to go through a defender instead of around them is generally bad strategy for a RB.

And I'm happy to have Lewis, but he ain't Walker.

Nope, not Walker, may never be another. But he could be in the Jay Graham and Travis Henry impact category of UT history if he can stay healthy and not go down the Chuck Webb and Keith Davis path. I would be good with that.

CJ Baxter (Texas) has a real chance to be on of the top backs in cfb next season

We need to improve the quality of our offensive line to get the attention of the better running backs. Otherwise, we are just wasting talent.

I'm not sure if you've seen that we brought in two transfers that will start and the top-rated OL player in the class of 2025. I'd say we're doing everything possible to protect Nico and make lanes for RBs.

yeah, makes no sense. it makes sense to complain about pass protection, but run blocking....
Teams like Texas, Georgia, OSU, and Penn State have very little trouble doing both. All I said is that we need to improve to get the value out of running backs. When teams have to focus on both aspects of the offense even our running backs will do better.

Is this the first year you’ve ever watched PSU football or something?

Yes our rushing numbers have been bad and RBs haven’t had success behind our OL 🙃
I agree the rushing numbers are very good. Then what is your opinion that we would not be attracting top 5 running backs? With these numbers you would think we would be a premier program for running backs. With our current numbers a top RB could come in and get playing time this coming season.

In my opinion they look at our current OL and go on visits to other schools and look at their lines and end up elsewhere.

Sims could just suck at recruiting, but to be fair to him, we haven’t really ever recruited a top notch RB since Hurd/Kamara

No idea but one guess would be that from an NIL standpoint we aren’t willing to break the bank for a RB bc the scheme already allows our RBs to thrive.

We out rushed all of those teams. If they really have better OLs and were getting the value out of the RBs, why were we better? and in one case, UGA, dramatically so?

Remember reading any of the OSU comments after they lost to Michigan? Or when we got Sanders? they wanted their OL guy FIRED.

Sark didn't trust his OL to gain a yard or two going forward in the semis.

Ped State averaged 6 yards more of passing per game than we did, and 20 yards less rushing. Not sure how you can complain about our OL providing value when we averaged more yards per game than they did.

Georgia was good pass blocking, but run blocking they averaged 100 yards less than we did... I am fine if we aren't like UGA.

I think you are conflating a bunch of different teams and individual performances into one behemoth that doesn't actually exist.

You said he might suck at recruiting.
Right, this is his first season recruiting for us.

He landed two kids, one ranked 412 and one ranked 614. Since they haven’t played yet, I’m going by their ranking. It’s not great.

Now they both could come in, develop and become studs, but that’s to be determined. Luckily our system is RB friendly, and with the season ours guys had at RB, I’d say Sims is a better developer than recruiter, which is fine in my book.
