It's an interesting question...when push comes to shove, I admit a human's life has more value and is more sacred than a dog's, but the thing that makes it sacred is the intellect and emotion. You wouldn't let your kid hurt a dog, but you probably don't care if your kid smashes a bug. The difference is the intellect and emotion.

Dogs are deeply emotional creatures and they have the intellect of a 2 year old. Is abusing a child that much worse than abusing a dog, in terms of suffering?

Yes.

"Value" wasn't the question. I started the post by saying the value of a human life is greater...

"Is abusing a child that much worse than abusing a dog"? Charged right through that 3rd base hold. :ermm:

The reality is that both human life and dog lives are borderline worthless in terms of sheer numbers. There are 7 billion people on this planet. That's an excessive amount of people. Where do you establish worth? Do you establish it with contribution to society?

In my opinion, abusing a child vs. a dog are equally bad. I do love dogs though.

So by that logic you would be equally as upset if someone abused both your dog and your kid? Please tell me I'm wrong.

I'd be more upset if someone hurt my kid obviously but I won't sit here and say I'd be less hurt if someone hurt my dog. They'd certainly catch a beating.

Love my dogs and since I bought my daughter her car, I see them a lot more. Will hurt when they pass away. Pray to God constantly that I don't outlive my daughter...losing your child goes soul deep. No comparison.

I am not a parent and don't understand parental love, but I imagine nothing else can touch it.

But what about your dog vs a stranger? One has to die, you pick...the person or the dog?

Me personally, I'm picking the person 100/100 times to live. Would kill the dog to save anyone.

Depends on the situation. If it were a rescue and I had to pick, my dog dies.

If the stranger is trying to beat my dog to death, the stranger dies.

Unless the stranger is attacking, the dog.

Taking my dog into consideration he'd have to be provoking my dog or pose as a threat to me, my wife or kids.

The stranger, every time.
