Vacation / Travel

It makes me wanna shower..

People have told me I would love The Old Spanish Trail if I ever drove it, but I haven't seen anything in Lousiana yet but butt ugly stinking swamp, and butt ugly nasty cities. I hate New Orleans and will never understand the allure..
I told my wife is be scared to flush the toilet if I lived there, cause it'd probably flood outside! Totally off topic, but my mom was telling me earlier that they still have a Rax restaurant in Harlan! Have you tried it? There used to be one in middlesboro, and they had an awesome Philly cheese steak sandwich.

The wife and I are roadtripping from Virginia to Austin in a few weeks for a work event I have. Any must do's on the path through TN, AR, and TX, then back through the deep south?

You might enjoy Hot Springs national Park in Arkansas..it's a litle off the path, but it is a cool historic place. I don't drink or party, so I'm not up on watering holes..

Lol..that is the one place in town I haven't been for some reason, but yeah there is still one here, when I got here I couldn't believe one still existed.

All inclusive resort is the way to go imo.......everything is off the charts expensive down there when paying a-la-carte......have fun....I have stayed here and it is very nice....

Thinking about going in August/September, but I have said the same thing the last 7 years. Friends that have been say it is amazing.

Awesome.

Was doing some research the last week at it looks amazing! The weather seems like it’s great in the summer months. The mountains and lakes look like they would be great hikes. Just gorgeous nature.

Yeah, summer is best, but obviously is busier and pricier. I want to go with few plans circling the country and stopping to camp when I find an area I want to hang. From what I have been told, that may be tricky in the summer, which is why I have thought September. Just have to be aware of campgrounds that start closing for the season.

From my research a 4 wheel drive will give you access to amazing hikes.

I'd like to go to Iceland not just for the nature but for the history. I've been reading the Icelandic sagas and they're amazing.

Heading to Amsterdam and Nice, France in 2 weeks for anniversary. Any suggestions on things to make sure not to miss?

Heading to Alaska next week, my first time in the 49th state, but only for 5 days... Staying with an old buddy I grew up with in Knoxville who's lived near the Kenai River for 30 years and we will fish. On one of the days he'll be dip-netting which only state residents are allowed to do; last year he hauled in about 1000 pounds of fish in 1 day that way...

DW and I will be going in August. Actually a cruise this time. It will spend a week around iceland and a few days in Greenland.

One thing you might want to take a look at is flying over on Iceland Air. IA is priced Right and a good airline.Unlike most airlines, You can fly to Reykjavik and stay a few days, and then fly to another city in Europe. Matrix should show IA.

Amsterdam has some excellent coffee shops. Read about first. I simply would not miss the Vincent Van Gogh Museum. I didn't even care for his work until I went, now he is my favorite. Over 200 of his paintings in order of when painted.
A boat cruise would be nice. Some people like the Anne Frank house. Some are underwhelmed. It is a wonderful city.
More bike than people, and you have to be on your toes. Look for them******* before walking almost anywhere.
A good trivia ? What country has the tallest people in the world?

San Antonio is cool as crap to me. I also loved the drive through Louisiana.

Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio is where I went through Infantry Medic training. The River Walk with all the shops and restaurants was so fun. One of the best meals of my life was in a little place that billed itself as a 'Mexico City style' gourmet Mexican restaurant. The first time I had escargot ardiente caliente.

Just getting back from Yellowstone. Thanks to everyone who made suggestions. What an awesome place! I definitely want to go back and explore the less visited places. Couldn’t get as much hiking done as I wanted because of rain but my girls loved the ranch we stayed at and horseback riding.

What ranch? We're looking at Yellowstone in late September/October for fall color.

My brother in law went with his buddies, and my parents went on a cruise. The beauty is amazing. They both have mentioned the country hasn't been ready for the influx of tourists as it has now become a very popular destination as the flights are affordable.

I definitely want to go!
