You're not making me any less jealous.

Well, you're still just a whelp in your 40s so your time will come.:)

Speaking of upcoming travel, Ms. Danl and I both reach a certain age starting this fall. So we are planning a 60 Places for 60 Years Tour. We have a list of that many places that we have never been and we are going to visit them all between my 60th and 61st bday. Lots of planes, trains, and automobiles. Should be a hoot.

My 5-month-old already has the "chillin by the pool" down...'

When we got our first truck camper we weren't rich by any means. I think I paid $3k for the truck (72 Chevy C20) with the camper. That was back in the mid 80s.

My latest rig is a 97 F250 with the 7.3 PSD. The camper is the same one we've had for 16 years now. We keep looking at new and newer ones, but we like the layout of the one we have and we maintain it very well so everything works fine. Besides if I spent big bucks on a new rig I might think twice about taking it up the logging roads and two-tracks that we travel on now. And I have never been one to want the latest and greatest just cuz its the latest and greatest.

By far the most luxurious and rich thing we have is our time. Ms. Danl retired at 45 and I retired at 50. I'm glad we did as we have enjoyed traveling while our health is still good.

Your time is what I was mainly referring to. It is impossible for us to do anything like that for a long while. My plan is to try and get a truck and camper squared away while I'm still pastoring and working, and when I resign, and retire from work, then to travel the country. We have lived so spartanly, the we have almost no bills or big debts. We own no home, and moving as much as we have the last 16 years, we found out quick it doesn't help to have a lot of junk, so we don't have to wire about it. We could live and be happy in a nice sturdy camper till nursing home time.

When we get back home from an extended trip, we always feel like "Why do we need this big house? We were perfectly happy for weeks in a truck camper!"

The answer is we need the houses to store our junk!

Exactly. We keep a storage building space rented in Alabama where my wifes family, and our daughter and son in law lives. It is full of the sentimental stuff we don't want to throw away or drag around. It only costs us 20$ a month.

Are you using a slide in truck bed camper or a travel trailer?

Are you using a slide in truck bed camper or a travel trailer?

We have a truck bed camper, a 10.5 foot Lance.

Pros:
When we want to move, just crank the truck and move. You always have all your stuff with you.
No separate license or insurance.
Can go more rugged places where trailers can't go.
No backing problems.
Shorter overall length.
Can take it to "town" and navigate easier.
Less maintenance; no wheels, tires, axles, brakes.

Cons:
Harder to put on and take off.
Harder to "drop" when you think that you just want to take the truck somewhere while on a trip.
Trailers are, generally, considerably larger.

A slide in would be out of the question for the wife, she has our 28' trailer stocked like an apartment. We're not camping, we're glamping.

Yep, I think y'all are officially glamping. Ain't nothing wrong with that at all!

FWIW, most of my flyfishing buddies give me lots of ****e for sleeping "indoors" on our trips. They camp in tents. But I have never noticed any of them turning down a seat at the indoor breakfast/lunch/dinner table or an ice cream from the indoor freezer, etc.

We are returning to Cape San Blas this summer with friends. It's in the panhandle near Apalachicola/Mexico beach. No commercialism, can take dogs and have fires on the beach. Due to its orientation south-north, you get sunset views over the ocean. For those who like to be away from the crowds of the big beach cities, give it a look.

Glad to hear you like it. I Don't know anyone who has vacationed there but I found it intriguing

We stayed at Mexico beach and drove over there a couple of days. It's awesome over there.

Visited Vegas/LA for the millionth time, never gets old. Hollywood boulevard is really somewhere you should go once and never go back. There are so many other great places to check out.

We just went to Kennebunk, Maine. It was foggy & 20* cooler than other places close by. We drove by the Bush Compound. Its right on the rocky shore line. It was a cool little town with loads of character. Overall it was nice but wish we had better weather.

How crowded in mid July

It is not one of the main beaches, it and the Redington beaches are your best bet if you want a little solitude. Indian Rocks and Mad(madeira)beach have gotten more trendy the last few years, but they are not too bad. Clearwater and St. Pete beach are the most crowded. The Johns pass area on both sides of the pass gets really busy also sometimes.
