Vacation / Travel

Wife and I just booked tickets to spend 18 days in one of my favorite countries in the world, Japan.

Anyone ever rent an RV? Looking at getting one for a week in mid July, but most prices have been 250 or so a day plus a mileage fee. Want to go at least to Mt. Rushmore which is about 1200 miles, and at .35 a mile it adds up quick.
Ive rented an RV several times, furthest I’ve gone is 500 miles round trip. For most of them it makes more sense to travel to wherever you’re going and rent the RV there. Doesn’t make sense for a lot of highway time.

Booking on Marriott points. Ended up at a different resort.
Nice. My wife's uncle owns a condo there. They live in California and go frequently. They normally just stay at the resort which is nice. I've stayed at the Ritz Carlton which is a Marriott brand. It's very nice, but a bit further up the road and more out of the way if you want to do other things on the island. Have you been before and are you considering any other islands?

Never been before. Babymoon for the wife and I. Going to stay in Maui the whole time I believe.

I’ll be in Austin tonight and leave tomorrow. What’s a good place to grab dinner and watch the Stanley Cup? Staying near the Capitol

I think that'd be a fascinating place to visit, but I'm not sure what I would eat.

There's everything.

Yakitori is charcoal grilled chicken on a stick. You can get other meats that way too.

Katsu curry is a breaded pork chop in Japanese curry over rice.

Sushi (though I know that's iffy for people).

Okonomiyaki is a big delicious meat and veggie pancake.

Takoyaki is octopus in a delicious breading.

It's not all fish and weird stuff.

I can get on board with all of that except the sushi and maybe the okonomiyaki.

Heading to Anna Maria island in September.

Anybody have good recommendations?(food, night life, etc)
Cortez Kitchen!!!!
Star Fish Company Market & Restaurant
They are little dive places but food is incredible. At star fish you eat off paper plates and at a picnic table right of the docks. Seafood is super fresh. Grouper is delicious.
Also, everything in Holmes Beach and Anna Maria closes early.
The Donut Experience.
The Ugly Grouper.

There are some bars with live music but they close at like 10. Kokonut hut, UG, and Cortez Kitchen are places we have grabbed a drink. We are actually heading across the bridge for our anniversary this weekend. I will see if anything new has popped up there. Shoot me an email @ tntarheel6@gmail.com for some more info or questions.
