Vacation / Travel

Headed to Germany/Switzerland next week. Germany part is mostly done, but need advice from people on Switzerland. Entering through the Lichtenstein side, if that helps. Years ago went to Interlaken, Grindelwald, Gruyeres and Montreaux. Is there a must see place I need to hit?

There are some bars with live music but they close at like 10. Kokonut hut, UG, and Cortez Kitchen are places we have grabbed a drink. We are actually heading across the bridge for our anniversary this weekend. I will see if anything new has popped up there. Shoot me an email @ tntarheel6@gmail.com for some more info or questions.
Thanks

I just got back from Glacier Park outside of Columbia Falls, Montana. It was the prettiest place I've ever seen. Caught some lake trout on Flathead Lake. 80 degrees a few days during the week then snowing yesterday. Really nice people who are very similar to East Tennessee people. It reminded me of driving up Hwy 411 through Etowah just on a larger scale. Hope I can make it back there again one day.

Not sure where we're going this year exactly, but we are going to take several long weekend trips to different places.

I just found the company that made the "Invisible Ink" books that I played with on vacations my entire childhood. They're great to pass the time, escape from technology, and they don't use markers that can be used to "color your car". Of course, I'm talking about this for the kids, but I'm sure the adults could enjoy too!

Most of the books that they sell are in the $5+ range, which is more than I personally wanted to spend, but they do have a sale section with activity books for as low as $2! I got 13 books for $30, and I'm going to give them to my kids over the summer travel. Thought I would share!

Visitation to Glacier has skyrocketed in the last five years or so; they have had a month or two recently, typically July and/or August, in which they had a million visitors. So, your visit during the spring shoulder season was well timed. If you make it back, go during the last week of September and/or first week of October. The crowds will be gone, elk will be bugling in the canyons, and the aspen on the east side of the park will have donned their cloaks of electric gold. Prime fall-foliage destinations in Glacier include Two Medicine, Saint Mary, Many Glacier and Belly River valleys, particularly the area around Chief Mountain, as well as Lower and Upper Saint Mary Lakes. If the weather gods cooperate, it will be cool and crisp with a recent dusting of snow on the peaks. ‘tis as close to heaven on earth as one can hope to experience.

If you have time, also visit the remote North Fork of the Flathead area, up around Polebridge.

Thanks for the info. I would love to go back. We actually went to stubbled into Polebridge just riding around. Stopped in the little store and got a few bear claws from their bakery. We needed up taking that road to the Canadian border. There was an avalanche about 2 weeks ago and Logan's Pass was closed. We did ride to Saint Mary's one day. I had told my wife if we ever make it back that I want to go in fall. Unfortunately we didn't see a lot of wildlife other than some deer. Mostly around those fields near Polebridge. We really hoped we would get to see an Elk or Grizzly out there.

When I was a kid my parents took us out west for a month every Summer. Four-day trip in the Chevy station wagon from Nashville to Santa Fe. We always spent the night in Little Rock, Oklahoma City, and Amarillo. Each day my mom would give me and my sister a roll of coins each. Every time we acted up, she took a coin or two back.

Great idea!

The Polebridge Mercantile has been famous for their pastries for a very, very long time. Did you take the Outer North Fork Road, which traverses National Forest Land, to Canada or the Inner North Fork Road from Polebridge to Kintla Lake? A fair portion of the Outer North Fork Road is paved, whereas the Inner North Fork Road is quite rough, particularly the segment from Polebridge to Kintla Lake.

If you do make it back up there in the fall, be sure to book a cabin at the St. Mary KOA. They typically are open until the end of September and I can almost guarantee you that you will be serenaded in the evenings by bull elk bugling their war cry to would-be challengers. That sound is one of the signature sounds of wilderness. Once you have heard it, you will never forget it, nor will you mistake it for anything else.

When we went Polebridge we came from Apgar village/Mcdonald lake area. After about 10 miles that road ended. Taking a left went back to Columbia Falls. A right took us to the Canadian border. The turn off to Polebridge was on the right side. We also went pass the Polebridge mercantile to another lake with a camp ground about 7-8 miles from the store. Unfortunately it was nearly dark when we got there. We stayed at meadow lake. It was nice but rather stay in or closer to the park.

Just found this thread and really like it. Some of you have seen this, but back in April, my wife and I went to Barcelona. Such an amazing time. Highly recommend it. And if you go, go out to Montserrat and take the horseback tour with Juan. Basic horseback riding, but you end up with views like this.

Headed to Destin for a week for our yearly beach trip. Staying at a new place this year right at the Destin Harbor. Best thing about this place is that its walking distance to the bars on the strip :)

My family will be there Saturday. We are staying a little further down the coast in the "30A" area

Anyone been to St. John? Heading there tomorrow.
I've been to the city in Canada and the one in the Caribbean.
We avoid sun and prefer cool weather so we prefer the one in New Brunswick. Also the cold water seafood.
The one in the Caribbean is good. Like most places down there.
I believe it is safer than some Caribbean islands, but you need to do your research.

I love warm beaches, but there’s also a lot to be said for beaches in New England. Just got into town, and it’s kind of a rainy day today. But that means we basically had the beach to ourselves for a bit. BEF79B53-D2CD-4BF8-A9BB-41583B576223.jpeg1DD296DE-3AE6-4C11-92E7-7451D3925574.jpeg

Just spent the last 2 days at Mammoth Caves. If you've never been, it's definitely worth going to see. Very impressive. Will get back there soon for sure. Tomorrow we are going to see the Ark Encounter, and Tuesday we go to the Creation Museum.
