Vaccine or not?

@kiddiedoc, how does the body metabolize vitamin D? Does it shed the excess or is it poison after to much?

I read a little. Hypercalcemia. That sounds like encouraging kidney stones to me. Not interested in that at all.
As we get older, our kidneys lose function. I don't think we want to stress out our kidneys with a mega Vit D dose

This is an interesting study but look at the doses they're talking about:

NIH recommends 600 IU of Vit D per day. Do the math and 80,000 is over 100x the daily recommended dosage. Who among you are going to be comfortable taking that kind of megadose and for how long? Even at 5,000 IU you're talking nearly 10X the daily recommended dose. I ain't doing that. How 'bout you?
A, D, E and K you want to follow recommendations. B and C are water soluble and your body will excrete what it doesn’t use. Slight warning about vitamin c, too much and you will be in the bathroom all day.
Had a microbiology teacher tell me it does no good to take supplements unless you have the natural components present in your body to be boosted. The best defense against illness is good nutrition.
Regrettably since the food industry has stripped most of our food in nutrients in favor of synthetic substitutes and over processing, a great deal of people are severely deficient in many of the necessary components of good nutrition.
I can wait to move back to the farm and get out of this city.

I've been heavily on it for 3 years now. No kidney stones.

Meanwhile, the FDA approved Ozempic caused one of my co-workers to get pancreatitis and kidney stones all at one time. I worked side-by-side with him until 4:00 one day, and later on that evening he was in the ER. He spent the night in the hospital, then came back 2-3 days later with more pain when they realized he had kidney stones.

But let's demonize vitamin D...

I've never personally seen or known of a case of vit D toxicity. I did a little reading, and there are reports in people who regularly consume mega doses of 60k IU+ per day. I cannot find any credible source that would suggest a benefit to consuming such a large dose, other than briefly to replenish stores in someone deficient.

The liver primarily metabolizes vitamin D. Toxic effects are basically due to hyperglycemia -- weakness, confusion, n/v, eventuality kidney stones, bone pain, possibly arrhythmia.

FTR: I take 5000/d

Any vitamin d level we run is low.
Pt has htn , chf ef 15-20%, PAD, stage lll ESRD ( m, w, f Hd) last HD was Friday, Bp is 80/40 symptomatic.
Me to provider “ but what do their nutritional studies look like” I can’t fix 50 years of eating like crap.
I always get a laugh and eye rolls because we already know. It’s how I deal with the sadness of these people not knowing what good nutrition is.
These children in this area are drinking soda and eating junk at 1. The parents give them what they want but not what they need. In allot of cases it trashed their health for life.

Sad circle of life.

Question if you don’t mind, do you have a large population of end stage renal disease patients in your area? The reason I ask is up north in Indiana we had very very few dialysis centers. Here in Norfolk you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting one. %75 of our patients come in with chronic renal failure stage 3 or 4 on hd scheduled.

I do hear a decent rate of ESRD. Prob result of years of poor diet, lack of exercise, and general health deprivation that is common in rural areas.

I do my best and try to take time at every well child visit to reverse this trend. It's hard to break bad habits and customs. It's really not difficult, just takes life changes. Eat from the earth, don't drink sugar, cut back on fast food, put down the e-devices and get your ass outside.

I offered a man who was hungry outside a c store the only healthy food they had which was a banana. He actually turned it down and said that’ll ruin my appetite for McDonald’s. Sad face. I ate the banana. I don’t even buy me McDonald’s.

I remember the post you were talking about when someone was making comments about your practice. I remember thinking you dumb azz, he’s been right all along. Your common sense is appreciated.

As always at election time remember… McDad for president!!!!!

We've tried to give people food and they reject it and ask for money. Hard to have any sympathy for those folks.

Not long ago I refused junk food (politely) at a friend of Reds house. They said “you should live a little”. They have a handicap parking pass. Foot drop. A shoulder in a sling from a rotator cuff surgery….and they’re 2 years younger than me. I ran 4-1/2 miles this morning, I’m going to live a lot more than they do.

The side effects of some of these miracle drugs are horrendous.

Oh my gosh, you’re back.

Vax or vent right?
I have never had Covid, I have had six vaccines and I get a flu shot every year and this
year I also received an RSV vaccine. Growing up I would receive 6 vaccines up each
arm because my Dad was a Navy fighter pilot and we would have to live overseas
and I would get a Cholera, Typhoid, and ten other vaccines every time we would leave
the country. I have had vaccines all of my life. The first time that I went overseas and had 12 vaccines in one day, 6 up each arm, I was eight years old, plus I had all of my regular childhood vaccines through the years also.
