Vandy is about to have a 9 win season

Put that winning in the context of their schedule. Their BEST two wins were UT who we know was bad and NCSU... who UT beat badly.

I understand the schedule, but as long as Franklin is at Vandy they will keep getting better. If he can get recruiting classes like this now, they are only going to get better after consistent winning.

I'll be a believer once he pulls it off two years in a row. You can't deny the job he's done getting to 9 wins, but I'm not sure a schedule can set up any better than it did this year.

Looking at next year's schedule, I'd be surprised if they're not playing Wake Forest in the final game of the year needing the win to get bowl eligible.

They'll be lucky to finish in the top 20. They almost have a full class already and everybody behind them has plenty of room to pass them up. I see them finishing 23rd-25th.

That's still pretty strong for Vandy, and will be a talent upgrade over what they won 9 games with this year. They'll most likely finish ahead of UT.

I agree it's good for Vandy. It will still be around 10th or so in the league. I still believe UT finishes with a better class.

They're OOC schedule is a joke though. Austin Peay, UAB, UMASS and Wake Forest (for the 3rd year in a row). All they need is 2 more wins.

I said all along all Vandy had to do is schedule 4 patsies and then find 2 more wins. After dropping the Ohio St series and then not renewing with Northwestern, it appears they have done just that.

Dont like Vandy, as long as Franklin is there they will win, the man can coach and recruit.

We'll see what he does when his team has to face some injuries and adversity. He couldn't have hand picked an easier schedule than he has had the last two years. He avoided LSU last year and got to avoid A & M, LSU and Bama this year from the West. Couple that with facing Auburn and UT when they both sucked and you get 8 wins. Next year they swap A & M for Auburn. They're regular West team is Ole Miss. That's been practically a gimme in most years.

They are pretty much trying to start a rivalry with Wake Forest.

Some of the posters on here are incredible. I can just imagine your grandparents sitting in a boardroom 70 years ago saying "radio is and always will be king, this tv contraption is a fad!" I hope to God the leadership at UT has more sense-the minute we start thinking we will always be better and that teams that are down pose no threat, we are in serious trouble. PRograms are like products-you ever think the god****** twinkie would go away??

And one more cautionary tale before I drag my fat ass out the door for a jog-this year at Christmas when we had our big family dinner/presents, it was the first time that anyone could remember in the last THIRTY YEARS that not one present was UT gear of some kind. Your talking about nearly 50 people in the house, all with ties to or at the very least fans of the Vols. As a businessman, that would scare the bejeesus out of me.
Old man rant over, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Same here. There has always been UT stuff for Xmas but not a single gift this year and my season tickets have been reduced from 4 to 2.

Northwestern had a little flash in the pan not too long ago and quickly returned to their nature. I expect the same from Vandy.

News flash - Northwestern is playing in a bowl game on national TV on New Years Day 2013. They beat a team (Vandy) that absolutely thrashed UT this year. How'd our (last several) season(s) end up again? Oh yeah - never mind. Just can't understand why there is some need on these boards to diminish the accomplishments of college kids that don't go to school in Knoxville. Makes us all look like small, jealous rednecks. Thanks for that. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Their rivalry game is Ole Miss. This year their other West game was Auburn. Their 3 OOC wins were vs ridiculously bad teams. Don't mistake "easiest schedule in the SEC" with "semi relevant".

Their 4 losses were USCe, Florida, Northwestern and Georgia. They simply won all the games they were supposed to win. I wish we could say the same. We played Georgia St, Troy and Terry Bowdens team I can't even remember. It is what it is.

The thing is, now that they have won 9 games recruiting gets easier for Vandy.

They have now cleared the big hurdle Vandy has historically faced: Other schools telling recruits that if you go to Nashville you'll never win, never get to enjoy the bowl experience.

If Franklin can attract high 3 star players along with some 4 star guys up to this point, then next year he will be fighting for 4 and 5 star guys with the big boys.

Franklin can honestly sell Vandy as being the Stanford of the SEC. I see being the best accademic school in the the SEC, best conference, as a huge recruiting advantage for them. Don't lump me in with the dim-wits who can't see the change that has uccured.

So, you're saying your families are bandwagon fans and only support UT when they're winning? Man. Maybe you need to pick another family.

Let this sink in. Tennessee gets buried against Vandy. Tennessee finishes 5-7. Vandy finishes 9-4.

Actually, they were favored to beat Northwestern and didn't. And they got curbstomped by UGA 48-3. They also had the benefit of playing Mizzou without their starting QB who they barely beat. Face it. Vandy won't have an easier schedule than this year and the best bowl they could get to was the Music City bowl.

I guarantee you that if UT had played Vandy's schedule and UT's best wins were over Ole Miss and NC State (who we actually beat) there would be more than a few that could look at that schedule rationally and say we still didn't really beat anyone. Since it's Vandy and they rarely beat anyone anyway, then everyone thinks they've done something. For them? Yes. For anyone else that has any kind of history? No.
