Vandy is about to have a 9 win season

Thanks for the "news flash." What is the memory span of people on this forum? 15 minutes?

My point is that teams like Vandy, Northwestern, etc. tend to cycle. NW has had 6 winning seasons in the last 15 years. When all the planets align they have spurts of winning but there's just too much going against them to have a traditionally strong program.

The VU coach will almost certainly go somewhere else if he contines to win. He will be sought after by plenty. If he doesn't, good for him.

BTW, yesterday was NW's first bowl winning since 1949. If a bowl win very 60+ years doesn't say perennial powerhouse, I don't know what does.

My point is that programs like UT cycle as well. Everyone on these boards seems to get hateful and unrealistic when we are in a down cycle (which we most definitely are at the moment) and expect it to end just because we fans want it to - it just does not work like that. In the meantime, I do not think it helps at all that we (collectively) shower hate or negativity on other programs or on kids that decide to study and play elsewhere. Those kids are entitled to the same respect as the ones that decide to come to Knoxville. I love it whenever schools that excel academically (such as Northwestern, Stanford and yes, Vandy) compete well in athletics.

I agree absolutely with you. I was not my intent to insult any university. I understand that success in athletics is more difficult and requires a greater effort for schools such as Vandy or NW.

I also like it when those schools have success on the field or court. Although, I personally don't "hate" any program. I enjoy college athletics for what it is. The only team I ever want to see lose is the one playing Tennessee. Otherwise, I don't care. I just pick a side for the game based on whatever criteria makes sense. I've even been known to switch sides three or four times before the game is over! :)

Although, I would argue that cycles for some programs are less drastic and last far longer. It seems that schools like NW or Vandy can string together 3-4 years of playing well while the big powerhouses can go a decade or more. The cycles just seem far less drastic.

Are you kidding?

Not at all. I assume you didn't read much of this thread.

I guess you are among those that think six winning seasons in the last 15 years and winning a bowl game for the first this year time since before the Korean War is considered "relevant?"

You are a gigantic douche. You have to be an alias so someone can troll.

So stating my opinion based upon the reality of their record brings you to this? No contradiction based your opinions? No presentation of of anything meaningful or relevant? Only sophomoric name-calling?

No I am not a troll. I have been on the board far longer than yourself.

If you would have read this complete thread, you would have discovered that my point was that NW finally had a flash of good play several years ago and has since been up and down. Further, I expect VU to do the same.

I assume you don't agree. You are just unable to articulate a meaningful thought.

OR, maybe you can suck my ****??

Sorry Tarzan. I don't swing that way. I'm sure there is some kind of forum on the interwebs though where they will take that request.

However, please donate all of your UT items to Goodwill until they start winning again.

You mean I have to support your wife and my kids, now I gotta donate to goodwill too??

Was that supposed to make sense?

You only give and receive gifts when UT is winning. Might as well give your UT gear where someone who isn't a bandwagon fan will actually wear them.

UT just changed coaches. You don't know what trajectory UT is on right now. From reading what former players are saying and the general vibe on the campus, Jones is doing all the right things and repairing relationships with high school coaches that Dooley tore down and blew to hell. That doesn't happen overnight.

I bet you were foaming at the mouth with the Kiffin hiring along with the other kids because he brought in 4-5 star recruits only to see most of them get arrested, suspended, leave and then have him bail and burn UT down to the ground. Again, you haven't seen UT go through a down cycle until now. The SEC is as strong as its ever been. They're not going to just jump right back in and be top dog.

You're also still living in Dooley land. Was Jimmy Frank a better coach than Dooley? Yes, but anyone with half a brain was. You're already giving up and burying Jones before he even has coached one damn game. Last time I checked, Jones beat Jimmy Frank head-to-head with similar to less talent. Maybe you need to rewatch that Liberty bowl game.

And UT was a dead team walking against Vandy. The team gave up and mailed it in after they got down because the players knew Dooley was done. You think they come out with that same effort if that game is played at the beginning of the season or in the middle of the season before Dooley's fate was sealed? Uh, no. Only one team handled UT all year and that was Bama. UT was in every other game against much better teams than Vandy. Once the players knew Dooley's fate after the Mizzou game, they were done.

Hmmm... That would make sense if any facts were involved. Spin City, baby.

After last years Vandy game our guys were celebrating "kicking the Ish" outta them and proceeded to lose to UK with a WR playing the QB position and a bowl game on the line.

So this year we just have to beat Vandy and UK to get to a bowl game, get spanked in Nashville and after the announcement of CDD's firing we go beat UK handily.

Cool story, bro. It's sitting in the fiction section of my library.
The 41-18 box score is in the history section. Move on. Go Vols.

Yeah, because that team that showed up against Vandy was the exact same one that showed up against UGA and USCjr right? Again, who blew UT out besides Bama before they knew Dooley's fate? I can't wait to hear that one.

Once UT lost to Mizzou, the players knew Dooley was done. Once they got down, they were done and mailed it in. If you can't tell the difference in that game and the effort against NC State, UGA, USCjr, Miss St and the like then you didn't watch them much.

And hell, you could've trotted out a JV team and beaten Ky this year. They were god awful.

Actually what you said is that they, Northwestern, were on the up but have since fallen back to normal. Which is quite amusing considering their season this year.
