Vandy > Than Tennessee Fallacy

Actually I would not be saying that anyone who had the following season is back or even a very good team.

Vandy beat: Presbyterian / UMass / Wake Forest in their non-conference schedule. They lost on the road to a good Northwestern team. League-wise the best game they played they lost -- South Carolina. UGA rolled them bad. UF beat them similar to us in Nashville. They squeaked by Mississippi and Auburn (worst team in school history?) at home. The did win a close game at Missouri on the road (not sure if Missouri had their starting QB). Beat a terrible KY team that got their coach fired. Beat an awful UT team most likely after their coach had been canned behind the scenes. They won essentially a home game against a bad ACC team that even UT beat.

Vandy can only play the teams on their schedule. But they are most likely one of the worst 9 win teams in SEC history.

And again, if anyone thinks that puts them ahead of UT's program.....then that person is kidding themselves.

I look forward to Vandy's trip to Neyland against a UT team that will actually have a coach who is willing to roll-up his sleeves and coach his team.

I'm not saying they are a better football program than UT, that's ludicrous obviously. But too many people just want to dismiss what they did because they hate Franklin or because it's Vandy. No matter the schedule, winning 9 games for Vandy in this conference is a monumental acheivement and they deserve a little credit and so does Franklin.

IF we had beaten Vandy and the same article had been written yes. Also, i made a special edit in my original post for those of you questioning my "madness".

Well I don't think the article would have been written had UT won, do you?

Butch will get UT back on track and Vandy will be knocked down a peg or 2. But for now, they're excited and they should be.

And finally, i don't recall saying anything about losing to Vandy in 2012 particularly bothering me.

So if UT had beaten Vandy would you have started this thread? NO.

So the whole reason you're mad stemmed from Vandy beating UT. So I would say it is certainly bothering you. Just using a logical progression.

Yeah, he mad.

Since i agree with this post; verbal sparring match stalemate declared.

At the end of this season, Vandy had definitely passed us - no question about it. Historically, no way and it won't last long. But right now, yes, Vandy is better. It's a sad, sad fact.

Come on folks, Vandy won 5 SEC games this year and stomped the S*** out of the Vols, so yes they had a much better team last year and have a great head start for this year.....it is what it is
We will be back, but I'm not sure how long it will take, currently Vandy is the best team in Tennessee
and this is very hard to say

Most of the players on the field for Vandy were not recruited by Franklin. We'll see how he does without a senior/redshirt senior laden team, and when he plays more than 2 teams with a winning record.

You mean that juggernaut of players that finished 2-10 in both 2009 and 2010. Yeah, he really walked into a great situation. Good grief.

Kids grow up. Our O line did not get a push in 2010 or 2011, but were dominant in 2012. 5th year seniors are an asset to most teams. He had a senior QB, senior RB, and mostly senior or 5th year senior O and D lines.

I agree about having a mature team, but it's still Vandy! They were coached up, no doubt. There's no way this team wins 9 games with Johnson as coach.

This past year Vandy played Ole Miss & Aubun from the West. UT played Miss State (Which lost to Ole Miss) and Bama.

Next season, Vandy plays Ole Miss and aTm while UT plays Bama and Auburn. I wouldn't say UT's schedule is any more difficult than Vandy's.

Okay, let me approach this from a different angle.

Vandy beat: Presbyterian, Missouri, Auburn, U Mass, Ky., U.T. & Wake Forest.

All of those teams had losing records; except for Ole Miss.

Vandy lost to South carolina, NorthWestern, Georgia, and Florida.

All of those teams had winning records and made bowl games.

All Vandy did was beat the teams that they were supposed to beat.....

Maybe I worded this the way that I actually wanted to word it in the first place. Sorrry!!!

There are a lot of teams that only win the games they were supposed to. Bama happens to be one that didn't. aTm wasn't supposed to beat Bama, but they did. Did Bama underachieve? I know, stupid question, but this is a stupid argument.

Also, it was the OP that said Vandy had an easy SEC schedule. That's what I was referring to.

It should make you mad! They had a better coach last season. But as far as I am concerned, we start over in 2013. We fired the guy that put us in this position...or, rather, could not get us out of this position. So...just ignore the babble and pray that we beat the crap out of them next year! GBO!

in my world, vandy isn't supposed to beat 90% of teams that play div 1 football

Hey! Vandy has got a one game winning streak against us. Maybe when they've won 10 in a row I might say that Vandy has arrived and become the big dog in the state. Until they do that they are still just the sorry little school out west of us.

Those so called journalists will sensationalize anything to sell a story. The difference is we know they are talking sh$& to sell their story in Nashville. So relax good times are a comin!!! GBO!!!!!!!

AS much as I hate to say this, the bottom line is the Vandy program is leaps and bounds ahead of UT right now. UT has to prove to me they are better.

Vandy has had the benefit of a roster full of fifth year seniors and a coach who instilled new life, motivation, and competitiveness into the program.

Meanwhile, our roster has been decimated, our coach and best players shared a toxic attitude, and we fielded one of the worst defenses in SEC history.

That said, I think we beat them soundly this year.

CBJ will have the team out for blood in November. He knows how important that game is for recruiting purposes.

Tennessee just wanted to see what the bottom is really like. They let Kentucky get them last year so they had to let Vandy get them this year..yeah..thats what they were doing! Only other place to go is up!..

They beat us when they had the best coach they've ever had and we had the worst coach we've ever had. Oh and while they did stomp us, they only beat us 1 of the 3 time we played them with our worst coach ever.
Now that we have a real coach they may pull out a close win this coming season but once the team knows CBJs playbooks and system they wo'nt beat us again for a long, long time. But when we do start beating them I bet the journalists won't be writing Tennessee is the best program in the state, or UT>Vandy arcticles. Everyone but a few Vandy fan journalist know that UT is, was, and always will be the better football team. Beating us once doesn't change that and the only thing that will is them managing a winning streak on us, not just a single game every half decade or more.

It is whining. So Vandy beat us in 2012. 6 other teams did as well.

UT had just come off an OT loss to Missouri for its 5th straight loss and played like they didn't give a crap. If the team didn't care, why do you (as a fan) care?

Before you get in to history, tradition, and all that stuff, those things have no bearing on what happens on the field for the 60 minutes of football. Go ask any 17-18 year old kid what their take on UT football is and you'll be shocked. They only know UT as being mediocre to sucking. They don't remember Manning playing. It's been a while.

maybe you should ask, every 18 or younger kid i ask knows UT as the power program of TN, and if you are a fan why would you not care. if you are a fan??

Great! Being the power program in TN is like being the tallest midget...nothing to brag about.

Let's look at the competition:

UT-Chatty
UT-Martin
Memphis
Vandy
TN Tech
MTSU
Austin Peay
TN State

Did I happen to overlook a powerhouse or 2?
