Venezuela's Triumphant Socialist Paradise

Team Guaidó here. I hope enough military guys defect to avoid civil war. The Western European democracies should take his side in the next few days.

Paradise? I thought there was some sort of hubbub down there

Approching civil war.

Going to remain skeptical until I see mass defections. We've had disgruntled soldiers in the past attempt an uprising but they lacked popular support from the wider military. Though I did just see a video of riot cops withdrawing to allow anti-regime protests to mobilize.

Stupid response considering the two mentioned are wanting the same thing.
Venezuela will never have an American style healthcare system so you will always have something to care about. Trump is backing a Socialist if that tells you anything.

Yet you and your ilk want a Venezuelan health care system here. I

I’m surprised AOC and Bernie aren’t down there walking the streets telling the people that they’re living the dream.
This is great, should wake anyone up... but alas, the drumbeat goes on here.

@Velo Vol

You asked about the military somewhere in this thread.

Why Venezuela's military is backing Maduro

"Previously the military had been more or less confined to barracks, but Chávez let them out and gave them access to cabinet posts, to control of banks and other financial services," Phil Gunson, senior analyst at the International Crisis Group, a Brussels-based think tank, told the BBC. Mr Maduro, a former bus driver with no previous military links, has continued the trend. The armed forces have played a key role in supporting his government, with many officers holding posts as ministers or other influential positions.

Key sectors now in the hands of senior officers include the crucial food distribution services, run by Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino, and the state-owned oil and gas company PDVSA, which has Maj Gen Manuel Quevedo, head of the national guard, as its president. Over the years the military has been allowed to become corrupt, Mr Gunson says.
