KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The professional baseball season is wrapping up for 15 former Vols, including Mexican League standout Julio Borbon and Cincinnati Reds top prospect Nick Senzel.

Since joining the Pericos de Puebla in July, Borbon has averaged .390 at the plate with 48 hits and 30 runs scored. The Starkville, Mississippi, native became the first Mexican League player to go 6-for-6 in multiple games and the first to do so in a single season. Borbon's .365 season average also ranks third in the league with four games left on the schedule.

In the Southern League, Senzel kicked his production up a notch, tallying .340/.413/.560 in 235 plate appearances. The 2016 second overall draft pick started the preseason at No. 26 in MLB's Top 100 Prospect List and has since climbed to No. 10.

I've been told it is not injury-related. Nothing to worry about. https://twitter.com/nburzych/status/900877458735587328 …

That tweet was sent out earlier tonight. I don’t doubt that he was told that, but when the trainer comes out and looks at a guy for 5 minutes, then that player leaves the game 2 minutes later, it would certainly suggest it was injury related. Hopefully all this means is that it isn’t something to be worried about – but the timeline of events certainly suggests he was removed from the game due to whatever the trainer was checking out in his hand/wrist area after his single.

Senzel up to #9 on Kieth Law's Top 100 prospects

9. Nick Senzel, 3B, Cincinnati Reds

Age: 23 (6/29/1995)

Bats: R | Throws: R

6-foot-1 | 205 pounds

Top level: Double-A | 2017 rank: 15

Senzel continues to hit, now boasting a .315/.393/.514 line across 187 games and four levels, including a strong finish in 2017 at Double-A, and he's probably going to finish the upcoming year somewhere in Cincinnati's lineup.

The No. 2 overall pick in 2016, Senzel has a no-load swing with tremendous hand acceleration, so he still makes hard contact despite being exceptionally short to the ball; it's not a swing that is likely to produce much power, but he could end up with 15-20 homers just on the basis of how hard he hits the ball. Once a below-average defender at any position, Senzel has worked to become above average at third, and he is even a bit of a base-stealing threat despite being an average or slightly above-average runner.

The Reds have talked about trying Senzel at other positions, given the presence of Eugenio Suarez at third, but I think moving him again entails needless risk given how far Senzel has come defensively since his sophomore year at Tennessee. He's a player you build your lineup around, and if that means moving Suarez back to his natural position of shortstop, so be it.

Really didn't buy into all the hype on Senzel at first but saw him play in Pensacola while on a business trip. He hit two HRs in the game, one was 420 to dead center. Now I'm thinking that this kid looks like he could be something special.

Big year for several Vols. Senzel should play in the major leagues (probably May call up with they can save a year off arbitration), Stewie is getting some talk with Tigers, probably start in AAA, Simcox and Maddox both in either AAA or AA with tigers, Godley trying to lock down spot in rotation for Diamondbacks, many others still living the dream moving up in minors. Brutal business, but exciting for them to still have a chance.

Astros signed Matt Ramsey to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Finally found out why Senzel missed time at the end of last season. He was being treated for vertigo.

Senzel made his first appearance at SS yesterday. He went 1-2 w an RBI.

So far he has 5 At Bats, 2 hits w 2 RBIs.

Zack Godley has had a good spring with a 2.7 ERA.

He is a lock for an opening day rotation spot and he’s out of options so no more bouncing up and down.
