Video exposes (now former) Rutgers' coach Mike Rice berating players at practice

I'm sorry, but I laughed.

my friend texted me about 2 hrs ago asking if I remembered the kid's name who got hit. I remember everything about those few seconds like its the Matrix and in slo mo. I remember seeing his head whip back, then I remember saying "holy ****, look how high the ball is going" after it hit his head and went about 30 feet in the air. Whole team was looking at the ball as ole Hedgepeth hit the floor.

He ended up being ok, and it is, unfortunately, kindof funny, unless you are him of course.

How do you get "the unnecessary physical assailing of others is wrong" to entail "every kid deserves a trophy"?

The latter is not entailed by the former. You are simply a jackass in a corner.

because he is an emotional basket case and everything has to be an extreme in one direction or another in order to keep is VN ecred in tact.

Mike Rice is now unemployed. Don't see how him getting another Division 1 job. How long before the AD joins him?

This, I can not believe the whole team did not tell the AD and say either he goes or we all go.

Maybe it's just me, but since I assume the whole team did not go to the AD, is this what it seems? Is he guy that got fired a hero, or a sour grapes weasel getting back at the coach? Maybe I grew up in a different era, but I got yelled at by my coach, and on occasion, when I had my head where the sun doesn't shine, got a ball thrown at me. Did it scar me for life? Did I hate him? Hell, no. To be honest, I love and respect him to this day. Therefore, I refuse to condemn Coach Rice.

Prepare to get blasted.

Funny how a thread about a grown man acting foolish, turned into a bunch of grown men acting foolish in the thread.

I am a former head high school baseball coach, and all this stuff brings to mind a funny story. We had just lost a Regional playoff game and were heading home on the bus. Some of my players were making the turkey gobble sound, and laughing. I'm old school, you shouldn't be happy after a loss etc, plus the noise is getting on my nerves. I stand up and say the next time I hear that sound I'm gonna run you until you f***ing drop dead, and silence followed. One of my assistants asked "do you think you should have used the F word"? I stood up and yelled sorry I used the F word boys. They all started laughing and said "that's alright coach don't worry about it" . I never heard the turkey sound again though, and no this is not the reason I am a former coach. I had do give it up for health reasons.

Jay Bilas was in an interview and said he personally saw Rice going too far with his actions and words and told the director of bball operations (who was the rat) that someone had to stop him because he couldn't be treating his players that way. Bilas also said what he saw was tame compared to the video .

I'd like to hear a players prospective.

If they speak up it could hurt them. That's another reason why his actions are over the line. He knows they won't do anything about it and risk losing their ride or ability to play elsewhere.
I imagine we may hear more once a new coach is in place and players know which direction they are going. I assume they are being given guidance by someone in the AD.

That is totally inexcusable! I'm very surprised the players didn't react to him. If it was me I would have punched him in the face.

Me too. I dont understand why no player did. At the very least, i would have told him if he does it again, he's going to get his *** kicked.

Gil Biruta was a starter, the only player to start every game the season before he transferred out. He was the one being called a Lithuanian Fa****. He had a 3.59 GPA and made the all conference freshman 1st team.

Imagine Gil Biruta in a Rutger's English class and the professor referring to him as a Lithuanian Fa****. How long would that professor be teaching English at Rutgers?

Thoughts On Gil Biruta's Decision To Transfer - On the Banks

Check out the comments under the story, it's over a year old. Seems like the average fans were able to put 2 and 2 together without the aid of seeing practice or the video.

Sickening.

Unlikely. The scholarship is very valuable to most kids. Coach Douchebag knew he had that hanging over their heads.
