Vince Young released by Titans.

Is the Titans position in the draft set yet? Where are we in order? I am concerned about who they are planning on getting to replace him though.

Any ideas on who we may legitimately be able to pick up in the 1st round to replace him?

Also, last question I swear, but why would no one be interested in trading for VY? I know he is obviously a head case, but he did show a few, albeit short in duration, bursts of potential. He is just so injury prone and emotional all the time. I really felt good about drafting him, especially with the McNair connection and all, but wow, I never could have imagined he'd turn out to be this big of a bust.

We're 8th.

We could get Mallett, Newton or Gabbert...all have question marks but Mallett may have the most potential.

One thing no one has been talking about is that Vince is still, I believe, on his rookie contract...meaning that anyone who traded for him would probably be paying him like 10 mil plus this year. So I don't see who would trade for him.

Even though the Titans pick 8th, there are several teams ahead of them that need a QB. The Panthers, Cardinals, Bengals, Browns, 49ers, Bills and Broncos all pick ahead and even with Tebow and Denver, all 7 teams could use a QB.

Great move. I was going to write off the titans if they kept young over fisher.

I'm ready to write them off until they get rid of Fisher. I didn't want them to pick Young over Fisher. But, I did and still hope they would fire Fisher. I think this indicates Fisher will be here at least one more year though.

Good move by the Titans. FYI, now with Tebow at the helm, Denver will probably deal Kyle Orton in the off-season. The Titans might want to look in that direction. Orton isn't a franchise quarterback or anything, but he is a good game manager that can put up big numbers with your receivers. He would probably fit well with the Titans.

Vince was a problem for the team shouldnt been let go as soon as his after the game episode this year. Fisher is the only chance that franchise has. The titans could do alot worse Tons of NFL teams would line up for fisher if he was to be let go

Mallet won't make it to number eight.

Has nothing to do with Vols football but wow......I thought Fisher would be let go rather than Young

Well the official release includes the owner stressing that the coaching staff is still being evaluated and no decision has been made in regards; while also stressing that the two are two completely different considerations on his part.

Take that for what it's worth.

Interesting if Orton ended up a Titan after he cried like a baby about them being "dirty."

Trade Young and someone else to Washington for McNabb and Haynesworth, then draft a QB in the 2nd round.

Ha, I had forgotten about that. A fight between Orton and Finnegan would break out in the locker room the first day of training camp.

Thanks, Bjs & VKA, I appreciate the responses.

I haven't been following the NFL as much this year since the VY meltdown and our subsequent and numerous embarrassing performances thereafter.

I was so disappointed this year because at the start of the season, we really looked like a potential contender in spurts. Seemed like we just needed to get it together for a full game and we could really start breaking out this year. I even thought VY was looking more poised, confident, and ready to run the team initially.

Then the skid started that never seemed to stop. I mean what the h*ll is the deal with Fisher's teams anyway? Is it just me and I'm not looking at any historical data, previous records, or anything, but it just seems like his teams are always either on a winning streak or a horrendous losing streak year in and out? Like our seasons always seem to be full of streakiness (real word? Doubtful.) and lack of consistent effort and planning or something. I swear, we lose a game these days and I automatically start wondering how many more will it be in a row this time before we turn it around.

I wonder what NFL coach has had the most 4-6 game losing streaks in their career? I would think that based on his dismal overall performance as a HC in conjunction w/his excessively long tenure, he'd have to be somewhere near the top of that list, if not #1, right? Or am I just biased, blinded by the most recent experiences over the last few seasons?

Oh well, whatever happens, happens. I'm just glad something is being done to fix the problem. Sure wish we hadn't lost our DC to the Lions. I do like Cecil, but man, Tennessee's pass defense has been about as atrocious as I can remember since he took over the entire defense. Couldn't they just demote him back to position coach instead of firing him? Why not? He did well enough as a position coach to warrant a DC promotion in the first place, just put him back where he was, bring in a real DC, trade or buy a decent free agent QB, get KC well enough to be a solid backup once again, pick whoever has the most talent that's still available by our turn in the draft, and let's get this camel moving out of the desert already!

Young won't be traded, he'll be released. Mcnabb isn't any better than Kerry Collins at this point. You might as well bring Kerry back before signing McNabb.

Get rid of Chuck Cecil, Get Haynesworth, and Kolb from Phily. Get a D lineman with first pick. Titans will get a good pick in second round also.

I like Kerry when he's healthy, strictly as a backup. He is just too old to carry a team on his shoulders these days, and he really fits well when he is being utilized as the backup. Basically, he is primarily expected not to lose us games and it seems like he is better in that kind of a role. This season wasn't really a good indicator because in all fairness the guy had some pretty tough injuries that affected his ability to pass the ball pretty much any further than 5 yards down the field.

I like his level of experience and his calm demeanor when the pressure is mounting during a game. From a lot of the things I've read and heard, his teammates seem to look up to him and respect him.

He's the type of guy that can help the team as much, probably more so, through his presence/influence in the locker room and by sharing his opinions, advice, suggestions, etc. with QB1 from the bench during the game, rather than expecting him to be able to jump in mid-game and put up Manning-like numbers. JMHO though, I know a lot of folks want him gone as well.

Heck, I believe it'd be worth it just to keep him on the roster as QB3, if necessary (assuming we could afford to pay him).

It wouldn't surprise me to see Collins listed as the #1 starting QB for the Titans when next season begins.

Agree 100%. Sign a QB and let him learn from a veteran QB. Can't really lose there.
