You and me both. A bad offensive performance followed by one of the screwiest endings of all time.

God that still pisses me off to this day. We have Bama backed up at about the 1 yard line, and don't go for the block. We instead go for the return because Carter had returned a kickoff the week before against Florida. Of course, we can't do ANYTHNG, and have to try a 50 yard field goal. It gets blocked, rolls down the field, Bama moves the ball a little, and then Phillip Doyle kicks the ball out of the stadium to win.

I hate Alabama.

Another one is the 1999 Florida game. There is no way in hell we should lose that game going in. But a few hours and 15 penalties later, we're lucky to be in it. 1st down, Lewis rips off a run for 7 yards and trips over a blade of grass, otherwise he's still running. Of course, we can't get another yard after that and lose.

Man, that was a bad weekend. I vowed to never go back to Gainesville after that game, and I haven't...yet.

2000 Ga game (Ithink that's the right yr) Stephens makes that great run to put us up and the the Defense goes deaf blind and dumb and let's the Dogs march right back down the field and score on play action to the fullback :banghead:

It was 2001.

The 2000 UGA game was ugly, too. As bad as we were at the time, we still had every opportunity to win that game. We just couldn't score.

That was also the game where UGA fans lined the field with about 7-8 minutes to go in the game, ready to tear down the goalposts.

That there are actually Vol Fans out there that don't respect Pat Summitt and her legendary career.

The one that stands out is the year we played Georgia, Travis Stephens senior year. I was there enjoying the game with friends in a sea of red (had swapped two tickets to get three together), we were coasting.Slowly , the game took an ugly turn. Then, Travis Stephens long run to regain the lead late. Then Tennessee squib kicked the kick off(?), David Greene ripped our defense apart, the rest is history, end of game. Emotional roller coaster that day to say the least.

One of my all-time favorite losing moments was the Washington State game in 1988. It was my Freshman year at UT and we started the season 0-6 I believe. The UT students were having a blast in that game chatting with the Washington State players and, since they were destroying the Vols, the fans had basically abandoned them to visit with the Cougar players.

There was another nasty game that year. I think it was the Auburn game. But I'm not positive. It was pouring rain and the stadium was basically empty except for a few of us who were sticking it out in the student section. I don't remember how bad the score was. We basically quit watching around half time and just partied in the stands for the second half in the rain. It was raining so hard that I remember it pouring down on the lower deck.

That second game you speak of was against LSU.

We got blasted by Auburn at Auburn in 1988.

Thanks for reminding me of a forgotten memory. I was sitting 2 rows up in the back of the endzone in what had to be the worst seats in Jordan-Hare. The worst part of that game was when with under a minute to go, Auburn was down on our 5 yard line, but was going to kneel down and kill the clock. When the QB took the snap, he started slowly backing up . . . but when nobody came through to force him to kneel, he took of around the corner to score another TD.

1. Anderson fumble on 5 yard line vs Bama
2. Foster fumble on 1 yard line vs Cocks
3. Gafney "catch" vs gators

Too many in last couple years. Hope Cut brings back fundamentals that these kids have lost since 98.

The winning Bama kick occurred as the clock ran out. I remember walking out of the stadium and instead of the usual grumbling after a loss, there was stunned, dead silence.

Then there were the North Texas State and Rutgers (yes Ga Vol, I remember) losses in the 70s. The Miss. State loss in Knoxville in '86, following the SEC championship year and opening a 7-5 season. The 38-0 loss in '69 to Archie Who and the Ole Miss "Mules" (Steve Kiner's unfortunate pre-season reference to the Rebs) when we were undefeated and 3rd or 4th in the nation at the time and headed to the Orange Bowl -- until that game. Headline in the next morning's Tennessean: "Ole Miss 'Mules' Kick Vols"

Yeah, I didn't go to that Bama game, fortunately. I was mad enough listening on the radio for everyone in the stadium.

I don't remember the Rutgers or North Texas losses, but those were bad, too.

the 93 Bama game is a mixed emotion for me...that was my first TN/Bama game, and since we hadn't beaten them in so long, i was extra pumped to go...and my best friend from back home, who is a huge Bammer, went with me....we paid $100 each for two tickets. Sat on the Bama Sideline, me in my TN sweatshirt, and him in his Elephant sweatshirt, relly not speaking to one another the whole game...so tense, esp. in the 4th qtr, but he finally broke.

With about 4 minutes to go, we're up by 8!!! he leaned over and said, "well, you finally got us, congrats". to which i replied...SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!! too bad i was right...freakin' David Palmer and Jay Barker...i hated them both so much.

Whle the crowd was chanting "roll tide" i ws chanting ROLL CLOCK!!!! When he ran that two point conversion in for the tie, you'd of thought Bama won.

And, man, i was looking forward to the 4hr drive home where i could just hammer the bammer friend for 9 years of torture!!!

But, at the same time, it ended the losing streak, and was truly a great game to watch...that heath shuler to craig faulkner TD pass was awesome...and just to know that was two top 5 or 6 teams playing each other....it was a HUGE game, i'll never forget it.

so that game was bad and good....

94 Bama is the same for me. It was a great game and I was proud of the Vols for hangning with undefeated Bama until the end.

I still curse Peyton to this day everytime that game is brought up. Little Man was so open on the 4th down play.

This thread is a major downer.

I don't know that I've ever felt worse for a player than when Jerry Colquitt blew out his knee on the first series of the first game after he was named the starter.

Jerry Colquitt, man, that kid had some bad times. Read an article about him awhile back about his troubles. I, too, felt sorry for him after that third down play.
