I'll never forget the sideline reporter going into the stands and interviewing Archie Manning just as Peyton was warming up. Archie was keyed up and I think he may have even said "We thought they were going to redshirt him."

:lolabove: yeah, he looked like a fish out of water....so gangly and skinny...trotting out on to the feild....i forget which o linemen it was, but apparently peyton got in to the huddle and said something to affect of "we're going to go down the feild and score!!", and the o linemen that was being interviewed, just said "shut up freshman and call the damn play".

Good stuff.

the 93 Bama game is a mixed emotion for me...that was my first TN/Bama game, and since we hadn't beaten them in so long, i was extra pumped to go...and my best friend from back home, who is a huge Bammer, went with me....we paid $100 each for two tickets.  Sat on the Bama Sideline, me in my TN sweatshirt, and him in his Elephant sweatshirt, relly not speaking to one another the whole game...so tense, esp. in the 4th qtr, but he finally broke.

With about 4 minutes to go, we're up by 8!!!  he leaned over and said, "well, you finally got us, congrats".  to which i replied...SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!!  too bad i was right...freakin' David Palmer and Jay Barker...i hated them both so much.

Whle the crowd was chanting "roll tide"  i ws chanting ROLL CLOCK!!!!  When he ran that two point conversion in for the tie, you'd of thought Bama won.

And, man, i was looking forward to the 4hr drive home where i could just hammer the bammer friend for 9 years of torture!!!

But, at the same time, it ended the losing streak, and was truly a great game to watch...that heath shuler to craig faulkner TD pass was awesome...and just to know that was two top 5 or 6 teams playing each other....it was a HUGE game, i'll never forget it.

so that game was bad and good....

We won the game anyway by forfeit. The Cheating Tide had used an ineligible player. They had to cough up about nine games that year. So this BS about Stalling winning 70 games in 7 years is not true. Check the NCAA official record book!!

Not a bad memory, but a puzzling one...

Down 35-0 at halftime to Florida in 1996, and we've got the ball at about midfield... best field position so far... with Manning in the game, and we sit on the ball, content to go into halftime with tails betwixt the legs.

Then we lose 35-28.

What the?????????????????????????????? HEAVE IT TO THE CHECKERBOARDS!!! Do something, good grief...
