One day the young will become old and at that point and time they will have a better understanding and appreciation about the value of tradition. There are numerous teams that have stayed with traditional uniforms and it has had zero impact on the effectiveness of their recruiting.
I agree with your point about uniform changes not really having an effect on recruiting. I do think the team should get their swag back first and have a winning season first, but your point about tradition is not completely accurate. Those were one of the first unis for UT. You can't get more traditional than going back to your roots. IIRC, the first couple of versions of UTs unis were black with brown pants. Now, if we were to go to purple with pink polka dots, that would be breaking from tradition. Not having a uni that is a redo of one of the first ones.

I seriously doubt having a (special) black uni for an indoor game would matter to the opposing team and would probably view it as laughable...Oh look at the Vols they are wearing a black uni to try to motivate them against us, lets go out and punch them in the mouth and squash that idea quickly.
someone decides to use a particular uniform style in a certain year and that becomes the "tradition" that must be followed in every future year?? why is that?
Saw where Nebraska is getting a special uniform setup for their game against Wisconsin this year. Shows that Adidas is willing to do it, and Nebraska has just as much tradition as UT so that argument shouldn't fly.
Would be nice to breathe some fresh air into the program.
Nike couldn't have gotten Stokes custom color shoes overnight, either.
If you're cool with the UTAD taking millions of dollars less from Nike than what Adidas offers, that's fine. But I'd rather my school do what is financially best for it.

I'm still hate the black outline on the away jerseys. I remember the week that was announced in 1994 before the South Carolina game. The radio shows lit up! There was one particular caller that I'll never forget. He said, "There's 2 traditions that have now left UT...winning and the Big Orange."
The winning part because UT had lost to UCLA, UF, Miss St., and Bama already that year.
That was 18 years ago and there's a large portion of our younger fan base that only know UT's away jerseys with the black outline. So does the black outline represent "tradition" after 18 years? To some maybe, others not.

Saw this a buddy posted on social media... i know how volnation loves these threads... discuss :hi:
Especially Alabama, Auburn, USC, Texas, Oklahoma. Those are not gimmick programs and are still winning.
What you do not realize it that we were doing the same that you are doing 30 years ago. The program stuck with tradition and we had one of the greatest runs ever for the program in the 90's. The good news is that you will probably grow up some day and appreciate the traditions that are UT Football. When we look back on the MOD generation of the 70's and 80's it looks pretty dorky now just like these juvenile suggestions of today.
