Vol uniform/helmet design discussion (merged)

I know a guy who knows a guy that told him, Haslam hates Nike and we will never have their product as long as there is a Haslam around. TIFWIW

This thread cracks me up. The bottom line is this, we all want to win and to win we need top recruits. Does a high school kid pick a school for the uniform? No, does what the high school kid gets when gets to college and receives matter? Yes. High school kids want to wear nike when they go to class and when they go home and visit their friends they want to have the new nike it item. The truth is UT tradition doesn't get noticed by high schoolers, new/unique uniforms get you noticed. Once noticed you can sell them on the traditions of UT. I know this cause I coach and work in an athletic department at a high school in Orlando and I know an athlete from this area that didn't choose UT and a factor was nike. Adidas can do a unique uniform just like nike so the bottom line is UT needs to make a change of thinking, not necessarily a uniform brand change,
Nice post end thread

You wear the uniform for what it represents, not the tag on the inside or the emblem on the outside.

You wear it because you take pride in following in the footsteps of all the greats that wore the T with pride

For all the ones that gave their all and left it all on the field

Not so you can look ****ing cooler than the next team

Haven't deleted anything of yours so far. As long as you're able to post within the rules there is no problem

I'm glad you are not one of those mods that you can't argue with or you get banned. Your a good guy we all just want Vols to win. Just some of us want to win the style battle. I glad you stand for what you believe in.

Like I've said before, it doesn't really have anything to do with style. Read some of the stuff in this thread and get a better understanding of the situation.

And ftr, no mods on here are like that

I agree, but some high school recruit isn't going to be thinking that. Most high school football athletes can only name a hand full of players from UT. It's not tradition that gets them to look at us, tradition is what gets your motor going and keeps it going once you are at UT. We have to market UT football to the people we want to buy it.

Well, I find myself in a pickle. I just drank my last beer on the premises and these are my only three choices. I'm thinking whipahol.

Actually the way these kids go nowadays, it's become that a lot more of them come to play for the coach (position, head, or otherwise) that recruits them (& leave if he does) than it is so much they all look at us/come to play for us due to our tradition

Not to knock tradition, it's immensely important to fans, their purchases, and can help keep them on board (& in some cases, gets some players too)

Again, not to knock or diss tradition

Ok look, old people who are butt hurt over tradition and no change are not the ones playing the games. The people playing the games are 18-22 years old. Do you guys honestly think they give a rats ass about tradition? Maybe but I can promise that most of those kids like new uniforms with ( a word that my generation uses) swag. I love our uniforms but I think we should make some changes like GETTING THE ****ING ORANGE ON OUR DAMN HELMETS TO MATCH THE ORANGE ON OUR DAMN UNIFORMS..... What my point is im in high school and I know how kids my age think. We like new not old... the truth hurts sometimes doesn't it....

You're right. They are however the people who donate the money that funds the scholarships to allow the people who do play the game to even come to school and put on a jersey, be it traditional or newfangled. If you get down to it, they actually probably pay for the the actual jerseys. They also are the ones fronting the money to renovate the stadium these games are played in into a top-notch facility, and build them a world class training center. So, as the ones footing the bill for this whole operation, they probably deserve some say so.

i just tired of seeing our Helmets not match our Jerseys. Very embarrassing. Also we are not wearing Tennessee Orange.
