Our contract with Adidas ends next year. There's some legit chatter that we could make a switch to Nike if they were interested and outbid Adidas

McKayla Maroney wore Adidas to the ring as did a lot of the USA team, if you watched you could have seen the Adidas logo warm up jacket they were wearing. They wore Nike to the medals podium but that still does not change the fact they were wearing Adidas last night.

I don't think Nike makes gymnastics gear.

Team USA also wears Li-Ning (diving), Loudmouth (beach volleyball), Oakley (beach volleyball), Speedo (swimming) and Mizuno (volleyball), however, Nike is the official sponsor of the US team as a whole.

To respond to the rumor that started this whole thread disaster coming back to life, many people believe that Hart will move us to Nike because his previous schools were Nike schools. But it's not so simple as snapping his fingers and making a change.

1. We are about to begin the third year of a five-year contract extension with Adidas. Any decision is two years away, any change would be three years away, so arguing about it now is rather pointless.

2. Nike's previous contract offers, even when Tennessee was at the height of its football success, have been millions of dollars less than what Adidas has signed us for. Since it's a state contract, Hart can't arbitrarily take a contract that is a million dollars less per year for the school just because he wants to. Any deal, once selected by the UTAD, will have to be approved by several people with the state, as well at UT Purchasing. They actually held up a previous contract extension with Adidas over a fairly minor detail.

3. Our current contract with Adidas pays Tennessee more in cash, coaching salary contributions, and equipment than all but two Nike contracts with schools. I would seriously doubt that Nike would make an offer to make Tennessee one of its top-3 schools financially. Finally, Adidas' current contract with UT (and most other schools) allows them to match any financial offer made by any other company. They have never had to use that clause with a major school.

It would pretty much take an effort by Adidas to drop Tennessee, rather than us drop them, the way the contracts are written. It certainly could happen, plenty could change in three years, but I don't see it happening.

The orange for the jerseys was re-colormatched by Adidas to our "official" Pantone color two years ago. It had gotten darker over the years as various companies manufactured the jerseys. What you see now is the actual color that it was intended to be all along. That is our "official" orange, PMS151, and it isn't getting darker, no matter what company makes the jerseys.

Reminds me of what Steve and Barry's tried to pass off as Tennessee colors. Once saw a Tennessee shirt at S&B's and it was neon orange. Might be one reason they are out of business here.

I actually liked S&B. Yeah their stuff wasn't the best of quality, but you could get a lot more for your money there.
