Thanks Deer Park for setting the matter straight with the Crying Nike crowd. We live in a society now days where loyality is meaning less and less. For me the Adidas stuff just holds up and that says a lot. Adidas seems to have always stepped up to the plate for us and if a player wants a Nike school only, then that's a kid I would just as soon not have.

Well, you're mistaken on a couple of issues here. First, in Tennessee's case, it's not paint, they're decals.

Second point, the TechFits don't change color with sweat, that's actually one of the pieces of technology that Adidas was particularly proud of. The TechFits also use the same material all over the jersey.

Nike uses three different fabrics on their current model of jersey, all of them change color with moisture, and all of them have varying shades of darkness. I don't see how that's better.

I know you get tired of it, but I love reading your posts about this stuff. Thank you for your info.

Yes. When they went to the TechFit jerseys in mid-2010, they were colormatched to the actual Pantone 151, not just to previous years' jerseys. They were also adjusted slightly last year to account for the lighter appearance of the matte finish on the TechFit fabric.

Also, the shiny finish of that jersey is reflecting light, while the matte of the shoe is not. Bet it even looks closer to that jersey in person than in the bad cell phone flash picture.

Will there be non TechFit jerseys in the rotation, or is it pretty much all in with the TechFit? I just can't bring myself to like them as much as the older shiny jerseys. And why does the team have photo sessions and media days in the old style jersey if they aren't going to wear them?

The replacement road jerseys last year weren't TechFit, and some players preferred those. That style was an option that UT was considering, but TechFit is what Adidas would prefer that we wear, and it really is a superior product.

I can't answer your second question, I honestly don't know. They've done that for several years now, where the actual game jerseys don't come out until the first home game. Wore jerseys that were several years old in the Orange and White game as well. Same for all the pre-season promo shoots and media/photo day last season. Even if all the uniforms for this year aren't in (which I hear they are), then they still have a complete set of them from last year.

Glad to hear it. I don't get tired of it, really, just get tired catching up when I'm away from the board. I drive back and forth from ATL 3-4 times a week, and those three-hour periods driving almost always feature some uniform argument. I completely missed the whole Nike rumor last night and this morning from driving, and dove into it when I could.

Thanks for all the professional info you have brought to answer all the childish garbage that has been posted the last couple of days. Some tried to calm it down, but it's hard to argue against the childish "snap your fingers and make it happen" types. Then there are the types that think that a 17-18 y/o kid should determine the fate of a multi-million $ contract between to large companies. Just silly. :loco:

I'm an Adidas fan, so I'm glad to hear that the chance that there is a change is small in the future. Also that Hart cant just do it on his own as this was a concern of mine with his past Nike ties.

My concern about the tech fits are the way that they seem to be to tight on the shoulders, and bunch up. You can pretty much see their armpits. Honestly, I'm thinking this may be the concern with the way some players look in their uni's. Has this ever been brought up?

P.s. any news on UT soccer style shorts??? :). Thanks.

That pic looks like the stadium lighting washed out the colors. Either that, or the camera was ill-equipped to deal with the lighting.

Here's a pic in natural lighting.

What is funny is that the bottom picture is from 2010 when the jersey was not darkened to compensate for the effect of lighting. The top one is from last year. Supposedly that jersey is a touch darker than the bottom one.

When UT switches to Nike and/or Under Armor, will they provide us with black jerseys? Thanks in advance.

You actually bring up a point that I wanted to address. I've seen many say that, even with Nike or UA our look wouldn't change because we don't want to change, and that's not exactly true.

The way Nike has written their contracts in recent years, schools actually give up the absolute right to determine their look on the field. Even when Alabama signed their extension, they had to agree to have a Pro Combat uniform once every three years. The subdued version that ended up wearing was the 9th or 10th draft. Nike only gives absolute design control to their top-tier schools, and we wouldn't be one of those.

What schools on the next level get are options, required redesigns, etc. And the school gives them the right to do that. Basically, if Nike sends you a black jersey for one game, you're wearing it. They can also redesign your uniform every three years "to maintain a consistent high level of apparel sales" as the contract usually reads.

DeerPark:

Will UT ever fall into the mess that u of michigan has right now with Nike.

The issue: While um was a Nike school, their colors were maize and blue. Now that they are an addidas school, their colors are Sun and Blue, because Nike holds the patent on the color "maize".

As a Mich State guy, I find this funny. But as a UT guy, (yeah I said it) Im just wondering if this could happen with the UT Sherbert and Cream. (ok, so I had to take a little jab)

Serious question though. Thanks in advance. Great info here.

No, UT "owns" the color.

Developing custom colors is a Nike thing, and they it do for just the reason you mentioned, so it becomes very difficult for a school to leave them.

Thanks. That is good news.

Anything new and exciting for the Rowing Team this year?? :)

I am probably in the minority here, but I think that a game with CheckerBoard shoulders would be pretty stinking awesome. Dont want to go all Maryland on anyone, but something like that once a year could be pretty cool. Has to be done tastefully, and the kids have to think it is the most bada$$ thing in the world, or it is not worth it.

I can say from experience that the ProCombats that Mich State wore last year were definitely noticed by the recruits. They may not sway a recruit one way or another, but they do not hurt the process.

so i dont usually chime in on uni threads cause they get stupid but i just gotta pop this idea. away games...as much white as possible with very few orange accents aside from the helmet. full on storm trooper domination. we will own the sec! GBO! oh and the flip side...full blown all orange uni at home. boom! git u sum

Not a big fan of the storm trooper look or solid color uniforms for that matter. I like orange on white for home and white on orange for away.
