We may have worn black in the 1920's just like a lot of other schools but there is no tradition here in that. You don't here "this is black and white or orange and black country". The black from 1995 was a conference wide rule saying that all away uniforms must have the numbers outlined in black so the people calling the games could read them easier. Black is not in our tradition so anyone saying that is just doing so for their sake of the argument.

And to whoever said black unis get the recruits fired up has to be joking right? Why would a recruit care. If we wore black every year and still had the same record it wouldn't change who we got or didn't. Do Alabama, LSU or Florida etc use gimmicky uniforms to get players? No, they win and that's all we need to do.

Thank you.

who is the adult in this situation? No sense in lowering yourself to his level.

Your right. Never seen one newbie come in and insulting any and every poster on here. Should have just let him have his fun, its obvious women arent part of his equation and needs this to satisfy himself. Who am I to deny him that.

Lol. Literally every team you mentioned has changed up their uniform although Bama was rather conservative. LSU & Florida was not. A uniform shouldn't define tradition as much as winning. How many teams are going to BCS bowls & winning championships that mix up a little from time to time? A lot.

Kiffin wasnt the one who did it. It was Eric Berry and a few other guys who approached Kiffin and Hamilton about it. Everyone seems to blame Kiffin for everything but it wasnt him, plus I doubt he had the Authority to contact Adidas and get the Jerseys made. It should only matter what the players like. They are the ones who wear them and bust their asses during practice and the games. So im not so sure the part about the higher ups is true. We got the win and beat the Cocks ass and that was what mattered. Black has been a part of our color scheme long before any of us were pulling for the Vols.

That was a false story. It was Kiffin from the start, and in the end, he ordered them 100% without approval from Hamilton.

Based on the Avi I thought it was Grizz at first. Thought - what has gotten into - ohh, it ain't Grizz. Haha.

Your right. Why cant the guys we live threw every week decide once year a uniform style. Its cool if its the same colors. Just maybe a different design.

Exactly. Especially if they are winning. But things like this are important to kids. They are all about fashion and looking cool. Last year Vol Players were Tweeting how good some teams Mike Combat unoforms looked. I mean it shouldnt be high on their list but definitely doesnt hurt.

If that's the case then I was 100% wrong. That was the last thing I remembered hearing about that and thought Berry and some other players had approached Kiffin, then Hamilton. But either way it was a good idea because it worked that night.

I never understand this idea of "wearing different colors gets recruits excited". If that was the case, Oregon would have the number 1 recruiting class every year, and Bama/SoCal/UT/PSU/LSU would all have horrible recruiting, right?

Recruits want to go to a place for many reasons: playing in a specific conference, or; chance to get a good education, or; chance to get TV exposure for NFL, or; you name it. I would hate to think there is a recruit sitting at a table mulling over offers from UF, UT, Bama, USC, PSU, tOSU and Vandy thinking "everything looks about even to me, but who looks the prettiest on game day?" or "you know, that color orange doesn't look good against my complexion, but black is awfully slimming".
I would argue that the only reason Oregon is a top program is because of the uniforms. Some schools have tradition, championships, etc to fall back on. Oregon has flashy uniforms which caused this huge unifest across the nation.

I love tradition, but still think alternate uniforms are a great way to pump up the crowd and players for big games. I know it had poor results in basketball but I would love to see checkerboard theme for all the fans like the uk basketball game

Hamilton floated the story out there, they came up with it after he told Kiffin no and he did it anyway.

Wearing black had nothing to do with beating South Carolina. Any lift a team gets from some sort of gimmick is gone in the first 5 minutes. They didn't play harder in the 4th quarter wearing black than they would have in orange.

I remember LSU using a gold helmet(still within their colors technically) but what did Florida do?

EDIT: haha, I stand corrected. Oh well, point is we don't need no stickin black uniforms.

I think that it should stay traditional for this game from my POV. Although, if wearing black uniforms gets the players that more pumped up to play this game and win then do what we have to. Id rather win in black uniforms then lose in the traditional orange.

IMO those uniforms looked last minute too. I'm fine with uniform changes personally as a one game thing. I don't think it will happen under DD though and don't care but if you do it take your time and do it right.

That may be true but I guarantee the players loved it. Football can be such a superstitious game for players and fans. We all know Uniforms dont win or lose games, but if players or fans believe it does then great.

Sure all that black was Kiffin's idea. He never appreciated any of Tennessee's traditions. How many times has he added black to SC's colors. He appreciates their tradition but not ours. He tried to import all that SC stuff when he coached here. Those who say black was once a part of our tradition have to go back to the "dark ages" to find it; before the forward pass and before anyone had any tradition anyway. Our tradition was built on ORANGE AND WHITE. Case closed.

Black has been a part of our color scheme since 1995.

I'm sure there are just a few fans around these parts that have been fans for longer than that.

Myself included of course.

Just not long enough lol Black has been one of our colors no matter how much someone wants to clam it is not!

"Early Days

When the Vols wore black jerseys this past year it was not the first time they had taken the field in black. From 1911 to 1920 black was the primary color for Tennessee football jerseys."

TNJN - Tennessee football uniform history

I would like to see black once a year at a game of the players choice. If you were at the SC game then you know how electric the crowd and the kids became when they ran out in black. The place went nuts(except for a few blue hairs or those that got pissed) But beating the gheyturds in Orange would be just fine!

Geez, how does Bama bring in top classes year after year with those boring uniforms? Oh yeah, they kick everybody's a$$ on the field.

Didn't say it was the deciding factor in where a kid wants to go to school... But even if it's a small advantage for us why not utilize it is all I'm saying.

All these superficial traditions. The uniform is gospel yet the power T has changed, we have some sort of smokey icon now, can't play for the beer barrel anymore, & I'm sure I'm leaving other stuff out.
