Volinbham Talks Marketing and Bud Light

Yep, Oklahoma is still mad...

View attachment 568440
Talked to a guy at a store I frequent and there were two empty slots in an area that was once dominated by budlight. Says budlight footprint in store was reduced to about 20% and they can't even sell that. It was empty because the product had been pulled for best by date.

Said even Bud brand had taken a hit, they reduced to 70% of original cooler space.

This is crazy, this will be discussed in marketing classes and circles for decades. What was once considered a bullet proof brand is now a shell of itself.

This will be discussed in some schools for decades. That’s true.

I still would bet by next 4th of July they’ve recovered a good bit.

Rebrand. AHB needs to just scuttle Budweiser, wait a month or 2 and come out with a different name.

Did they ever dismiss the marketing VP that made the bad decision? I know she was on a leave of absence, but you would think they would have parted ways by now after losing that much money.

It’s been claimed they won’t make an official statement. But yes, she’s gone. So is her boss.

I still don’t know how the CEO has survived this long.

You know, in the first few weeks of this I would have bet this was just a blip too..... That a few months down the road it would be forgotten. And while I still think they rebound to some extent I don't think it will be complete. There is permanent damage. I think they regain probably about half of the lost market share over the next few years. Just my guess.

To make things worse, at least IMO, they didn't stick by Mulvaney through all this. It was dumb and they haven't been clear about their messaging at all. Their best bet would have been to be candid about their mistakes in handling this and acted responsibility and asked for and wished the best to Mulvaney. They've created a crap storm and hurt people they wanted to market with. Complete dumbassery on so many levels

I'll be honest, that would only be a half measure. She takes direction from someone who has a broader vision....... They or them...along with her should have been purged.

They are suffering the long term results of half measures instead of addressing the problems.

I agree, the board should ask what his plan is to repair and correct the issues....... Whatever those were they haven't been enough..... You bring in a new leader at this point

The brand won't recover until he is gone....

Honestly, they need a Board overhaul.
What’s done is done.

But he hasn’t done anything after the fact to improve the situation. He’s arguably only made things worse. I don’t know how they continue with him at this point.

Their brand reboot should be similar to what Domino's did with Patrick Doyle a few years back. Domino's was struggling, they hired Doyle, and they developed an ad campaign around "We made mistakes, we are listening, we made changes, we will improve."

It worked well for Domino's
