Volnation Election Day Coverage

Now the state website has Webb by 1,800.

Anybody got an icepick I can jab into my ear?

Well regardless, expect VA to not be settled for some time. You'll have absentees and provisionals to be counted. Provisionals will take some time to verify first and then count. Then tack on a recount and lawsuits.

Allen just came on TV to say that the vote counting will continue tomorrow..

The Virginia website shows that there are still votes uncounted . . . Fox just reported that a county registrar had not completed counting absentee ballots and decided it was late and just went home.

I don't know why I'm watching this so closely. I don't even like Allen.

GAVol...I haven't checked the GA races. How did Marshall come out?

Would you believe that it's shaping up to be as bad as the Virginia Senate race. Right now Collins leads Marshall by 1,800 votes with about 90% reporting.

The GA 12th is even closer with about a 900 vote margin right now.

Actually, Kansas City came alive. I started going through county by county. Jackson county is looking big for the Dems. Clay county hasn't reported in yet at all and I don't know the demographics, but looks like it could go Dem by looking at the surrounding counties. Jefferson county south of St. Louis will be a place to pick up another 5000 votes or so. Also, St. Louis county will be good for another 10,000 to 20,000 I would think. I don't know where the 14k lead came from...she was down by 50k and moved 64 somehow...I'm guessing it was a city burb that finally reported in..because St. Louis county didn't move. Out of the counties left to report in, there are some Red and some Blue. But the counties in the Red appear to be a smaller total vote margin than the Blues...so things might be looking up A LOT for the Dems in Missouri.

Virginia is going to be a mess.

MT and MO are looking good for the Dems. This could seriously look bad in the morning. Bush's press conference tomorrow will be interesting.

I went through each remaining county in MO:

Yet to report at all:
Clay
Jasper
Maries
Pemiscot
Polk

Of those that are reporting...if the current trends continue (all are at 50% or above, so the trends are somewhat established in these counties)...look for McCaskill to pick up as many as 40,000 more votes. I don't know what will happen with those counties yet to report.

Edit: Clay butts up to Kansas City..North Kansas City falls within the county. It is probably less populous than Jackson..but I would think it would pull Dem (unless it is a big demographic change from the other neigboring counties). I will put this as a push with no more info.

Jasper county looks to be a Rep county and is pretty large..population 100,000...could be worth 5,000-10,000 votes in margin...or maybe even more.

Maries looks to be a Red county..but is not near a major city as far as I can tell. I would say 2-3k votes for the Republican.

Pemiscot is likely to be near a push...maybe 1-2k votes for either candidate (I don't think it is a major city)

Polk county looks to be about the same way.

So, I would say that the 14 k margin for the Dems could grow to 30+ tonight. We'll see.

The Greens have hurt Webb big time in VA. Their numbers could have easily put Webb in a safe area for the recount.

Third parties tend to always hurt a candidate in close elections...but I guess that is the way it is. I think that it puts a lot of responsibility on the shoulder's of a third-party supporter when you know an election is goint to be close. Do you vote for the lesser good (according to your values)..or is that comprimising your values? I know I would vote Dem if I lived in VA and was a Greenie.

Now 24K in MO. I think this one is over.

When Jasper county comes in..I think the results will tighten up again. I still think there is margin in Jackson and St. Louis counties to make up that difference...but it will get close again if Jasper county comes in before those (just judging from its size and the fact that that area of MO votes Red). And...Clay is a county of 180,000 and voted for Bush in 2004 (by a small margin). I say the Dems still win it.

Sounds like McCaskill just declared victory in Missouri. No one has projected her win yet..probably because of a couple of big counties yet to report in. But...I would say she is right.
