Vols 4 seed vs Louisiana - Thursday 9:40 ET CBS

Bunch of sissies in this thread. Scared of Louisiana? If we can't beat them, then who even cares about making the dance? Lay the points and look forward to a rare meeting against Dook.

I don’t think anyone is scared of Lousiana. I just think we have watched the last 6 weeks of bad basketball….game after game. This team’s confidence is down the drain with this season.

Goodness gracious. There hasn't been a single year where a bunch of our fans aren't moaning and crying over our seeding, our region, and/or our bracket. These people aren't even worth responding to.
Just friggin' beat who is in front of you. Win 4 in a row and we're in our 1st ever FF. That's it.
That a boy.

I’ve been scouting out possible matchups leading up to the bracket reveal including teams like Iona, Furman, UCSB, and Louisiana. From what I’ve gathered on Louisiana, they are a medium-tempo team but play considerably faster than us. They are a pretty good 3-point shooting team but struggle mightily from the free throw line. They will get out in transition as they rank inside the top 70 in that category but it’s not their bread and butter. They are a good rebounding team but I think we have the size to keep them under their average. Here’s the one thing that stuck out to me.. Tennessee has the #1 defense when it comes to effective field goal % while Louisiana is 206th allowing opponents to shoot over 44% on the season. That’s very telling… they beat teams just by having an offense that outshoots and out scores the opponent. That will be tough to do vs our defense considering the two best defenses they have played (Texas and Drake) both beat them by double digits.

This game will come down to Tennessee’s defense. If we show up playing like the #1 defense, Louisiana won’t be able to win. It’s a bad matchup for them. They have a decent offense but a lackluster defense vs our decent offense and great defense. This is a game to get the offense going and rely on the foundation of our defense to advance us into the 2nd round.

Crazy isn’t it? Favored by more than any other 4 seed. Could we be upset? Sure that’s the nature of the tournament. And so could any other 3 seed or lower. But it would be a major upset.

Yep Clark Kellogg picked the Rajun Cajuns to pull the upset. Great opportunity for the Vols to win then a possible win over the storied Duke program. No lack of motivation for the Big Orange. In general thought the SEC being so tough throughout conference play hurt the league's seeding. Texas A&M a 7 seed...please!! Tennessee was the second highest seeded SEC team at #4. Vols beat both Kansas and Texas yet Kansas State a #3. Too much respect for the Big 12 if you ask me
Jay has his final four picks. We beat 3 of them. Alabama, Texas and Kansas. SMH. Hope we can dig deep and surprise them!!!!!

We have a decent draw IMO. We *should* handle LA. They do not have the typical tools that trip us up. Duke would not be my 2nd round choice but they are not the ironclad giant some are portraying.

If you want to find a team that the Committee screwed with their draw, look (again) at Texas A & M. Got a 7 seed, should have been a 6 (maybe even last 5). Matched against upset potential Penn St who has won 8 of last 10, 6 of those against tourney teams, and both losses (including today to Purdue) by a total of 5 pts. Then, if they win that game, they have to face Texas, the strongest #2 IMO, who is playing a well as any team in the country right now. Oof.

Another year. Another exit by the second round.

Hard to get exited when you know the cap.

The Braves won the World Series with the team I thought least likely to do in its more recent years. Im really hoping this basketball team finds a way to tap into their competitive nature and click on offense at the right time. We’ve got to have that, because the D drops off so much without ZZ on the floor.

A&M had a horrible non conference schedule where they looked awful with losses to Boise, Memphis, Colorado, Wofford, and Murray State….

I can not wait for Buzz Williams’ dissertation on why he was wronged by NCAA this year.

Louisiana hasn't played anyone. Give me the Vols in that game.

As for the winner of the Duke/Oral Robert's game, that will be scary! Both teams are great!

I think it's going to be Duke Vs Tennessee. I really don't want to pick against Tennessee, but Duke has been playing excellent bball lately, however, their conference does suck!

You know h'what, give me Tennessee! I think the SEC was a strong conference this year

Purdue of course is Goliath, that's a gauntlet match. No comment from me for that game until if and when it happens.

Go Vols!

I don’t have a clue but anytime your team is 26-7 and you’re averaging almost 20 a game…..you can play at any level in college. Heck, I’d love our bigs to average 6 a game and hit a foul shot. With that said, what’s your point?
Just that UL has played a pretty weak schedule and I’m less concerned about a 6’11 guy that’s used to posting up against 6’7 guys dominating us inside than I am about a 6’11 guy that has experience and success playing against the kind of length we’ll be able to throw at him.

He got solid minutes and good production when he was at Arizona, but didn't stick around when Sean Miller got canned. He was 6-16 against USA's 7-footer Kevin Samuel in the conference final, but was 13-15 against him in their previous matchup. He'll probably do fine against us, but it'll take more than that for them to get a result.

Then don't watch. I just don't understand complaining about having to pay the Ragin' Cajuns and then the chance to match up with one of the most storied programs in CBB. March Madness, baby!

We were last 4 in, beat Iowa in O/T in Dayton, OH, we were there to see it. I believe it was Josh Richardson who put the team on his back to pull it out. We went on to the elite 8.
JRich showed out the entire tournament. Believe it was the first time we all saw in full bloom his incredible all around game.

Old Dominion is going to be a tough matchup on Saturday. Tennessee will run the Cajuns out of the gym. Hate that late start though

BJE’s coming out party. He’s had a couple of weeks to adjust from the scout team to playing with the rotational players. Well maybe a few more minutes instead of only a minute before one of the media time outs giving somebody a lengthy rest.
