Vols #9 in AP

The Vols are #9 and Bama and LSU are both ranked higher despite all 3 having the same record. Shouldnt Tennessee be ranked higher since they beat both LSU and Bama ?

Both those teams would beat us if played now. We were on a roll then, not now. We have been totally exposed - just pass 80% of the time on us.

Yeah, I was called "troll" on here for saying South Carolina could be a trap game for us. Now that I am right, I am not a "true" fan.

They are correct, I am an alumni which trumps a fan.
Was not a trap game. We play Vandy next week. Not a trap.

It was just a pain old a$$ kicking that we took.

We have not played well in any hostile environment.

and LSU at 11:00 am is not hostile.

I’m not that dumb…I’m just saying the Vols better not take them as lightly as they apparently did SC

We haven't played great in 3 of our 4 road games. The LSU game was the exception, and it was an 1100 kickoff (which they fumbled away). I'm hoping Vandy at night is still Vandy but I'm sure they smell blood in the water. The formula for success is to hit them hard early and demoralize them.

I figured we would drop to 12th. 9th is sorta surprising. We really need to execute Vandy. No prisoners.

Go VOLS

Yea, we were brutally assaulted and then mugged for about 3 hours on national television. I'm surprised we didn't drop more but I guess the polls are supposed to reflect the total season - not just the latest game.

We still have a shot at winning 10 games in the regular season and we haven't done that since 2003 - so let's kick Vandy's butt and go to a good bowl game. 10-2 was the upper limit for most going into this season and while I hate getting killed by South Carolina I sure do love the win over Bama.

Were you one of the people saying we would beat Georgia or Bama but lose to SC? I’m talking about before the season started, of course. There were a few posters saying that and they got absolutely roasted for saying it.

I never said we would lose to South Carolina, I just said it was a tough trap game because if we didn't play well and Spencer Rattler lived up to hype, they had a team that could beat us.

To be fair though, I never imagined them in any scenario putting 63 up on us and winning the way they did.

Yesterday was a crazy day for many teams - some managed to come back and win on last minute field goals. We lost. Yesterday was not the correct view of what this team is. I think folks in the poll realized that.

And this is very similar to how far Clemson dropped when they had the beat down to Notre Dame. It happens.

Well there are a few here that absolutely nailed it before the season started. Not that they would score 63 but that we would beat Bama or UGA and lose to SC. They should take a bow.

Honestly, I really thought the ceiling for this team going in was 9-3 at best and most likely end up 7-5 or 8-4. Figured we would finally get Florida, but never conceived we would get Bama and LSU too.

In that same thought though I never imagined we would get drug like we did at USCe.

If you would have told me on that Thursday we kicked off against Ball St that at the end of the year we would be 10-2 and sitting 2nd place in the SECE with a top 10 ranking, I would have told you to start stopping at a different dispensary because yours is selling you stale stuff.

Anyone here like Vandy at +15?

Road game. Night game. Hooker out. Vols reeling from the USCe massacre. Banks. Martinez. Our defense. Vandy getting hot at the right time.

One thing for sure: This game, be it against Vandy, will be a litmus test of what Heupel and his staff can do when the chips are down. Well, against Vandy.

UT will need the defense to show up for this one. Banks and Martinez have their backs against a wall. They can't count on Hooker and the offense to bail them out on this one. While Milton might be a more than capable replacement for Hooker, what if he struggles? Expect Vandy to sell out against the UT running game, and dare Milton to beat them over the top. Maybe he does, but what if he doesn't?

For those who think the UT defense is not all that bad, here's your chance to double down. Vandy ain't UGA, or USCe, right? If you believe in this defense, then go with it. It worked against LSU, right? Figure Vandy for 17-20, and the Vols cover easily.

Two words for you: South and Carolina.

I'm not touching this one. I hope the Vols win; think they can; but I wouldn't trust this defense against any other SEC offense right now. Including Vandy.

Time for a change. I hope Vandy is not the exclamation point to what I just said.

Go Vols.

Mad science. Longest of the long shots. But here you go for the sunshine pumpers who refuse to eliminate hope until they shovel the last bit of dirt.

USC loses to Notre Dame.

Clemson loses to S. Carolina

TCU loses to Iowa st and in big 12 title game.

Lsu loses to UGA

Maybe Bama loses to Auburn maybe they dont.

Tennessee beats Vandy

There is a log jam at 10-2 and TCU 11-2. So in that scenario 1 Georgia or Michigan/Ohio st winner 2. I assume they would place Georgia here to avoid big 10 rematch in semis. 3.Michigan Ohio st loser 4. Why not us in that log jam of 10-2s. Yes we have horrible loss but those resume wins are still there.

You can comment about how bad our performance was as much as you want, but there's no way we should be ranked behind two teams that we beat head to head.

We lost to SC on the road and #1 UGA on the road. We beat LSU in their house and their other loss is to an ACC team.

Bama lost two close SEC games on the road, so you could make a case for them except that those two losses are against the two other teams in question.

Polls are seriously frustrating.

Behind 3 other SEC teams, two of which Tennessee had already beaten, good teams get better as the season goes on, bad teams get worse, Tennessee is in the latter category now, writers and voters have picket that up, hate it, but this coaching staff is very young and somewhat green in terms of what it takes to be successful in the SEC week in and week out, Martinez is just dead weight and should never have been allowed back on staff, but that is Heupel and White's problem now

I would not say we have gotten worse. The KY and MO wins were impressive (particularly KY). We regressed--significantly-- this one game but I don't see it as a trend to our season.

A lot better season than any of us expected in mid August. We won a lot more than we should have won. Next year, bite your tongues and take it like a man. Give Heupel time to build his staff and his team. To be 9-2 right now is incredible. We could not play in CFP and win with a defense that can not get off the field. Sorry. Truth hurts. Be glad we are where we are. We should have won 7 or 8 this year. We would have felt pretty decent about a program that is rebuilding. No way this season was a waste. Texas A&M, no that’s a waste.

Lucky guess at best because there’s no way in hell we should’ve lost that game. People can talk about being above expectations all they want, but don’t move the goalposts when this team had an excellent path to the playoffs.
