Vols at #5 CFP tonight? Nope, they're #7

They have an objective game control criteria that captures this. Essentially, us, Bama, OSU have same rating from 3-5. (It would be us, OSU, Bama if you factor in FCS game and Bama, OSU, us if you exclude FCS game)....
Apparently it isn't completely objective. And honestly, it can't be. There's no way to factor in every meaningful fact beforehand.

UT needs to fix the D. It cost the Vols the SEC and a shot at the playoff. Overall, UT is ahead of schedule. I don't think we can say that on D.

Alabama forced the same number of punts against us that we forced against Carolina.
One was playing the nation's best offense. The other was playing one of the worst O's in the SEC, a QB widely considered a bust, a team without a RB, and an OC that probably would have been fired if not for those last two games. Knowing that... the OC took another job in spite of those wins.

It doesn't excuse how bad our game was, but isn't it pretty obvious that SC is a different team offensively now vs what they were even just a month ago? They obviously junked the offense and had a new set of eyes calling the plays and they look much more dynamic.

Polls and the CFP are always about perception and recency bias. We got hammered by what was perceived to be a bad SC offense and we fell to 10th. Mysteriously, the next week Clemson loses at home to the same guys that are perceived as up and coming and they fall 1 spot. Not saying that either move in the polls is right or wrong, but it's funny how changes in the polls are as much to justify previous logic as they are the results on the field.

I don’t think any of that logic is flawed, but at some point you are just having to dig too deep. 52-49 is all that needs to be said.

I know this sounds absolutely insane, so we will have to wait to see. My cousin has a friend that is close with the committee and he says we are jumping Ohio St and Bama for the #5 spot.
Now Georgia and Michigan are in no matter what, but if TCU or USC slips up we are in.

GBO- GO VOLS GO!

LOL...If we didn't lay the big turd at SC wouldn't have to worry about this...

The only shot UT has is if TCU & USC both lose. Any kind of loss by USC eliminates them and puts in OSU. TCU even if they lose will only have one loss. So they will probably stay in unless they lose big or are never really in the game and at least suffer a double digit loss. If this happens, UT will be up against PSU, who beat no one, and Bama who also has 2 losses and loses in all five categories to UT. Hendon being hurt is a wild card. I would put our odds at about 55% if both TCU and USC lose.

Yep ole midget must of gotten punched by thug burton saturday in iron bowl. He a bit bloody on the cheek.
That was God's payback to him for protecting that thug after he hit our young lady. How'd it feel, Nicky?

Try 0%. This isn't even an argument anymore, so you can go ahead and start your whining now.

A. Not ever been one for whining. If we don't, we don't. Still a fantastic season!
B. Which part? I'll admit I didn't read all 11 pages of the forum. Was it something that was previously discussed? If so, oops.

The most recent CFP Rankings just came out last night. This is the next-to-last set of CFP Rankings. They were as follows:
#1 - Georgia
#2 - Michigan
#3 - TCU
#4 - USC
#5 - Ohio State
#6 - Alabama
#7 - Tennessee

Ohio State, Alabama and Tennessee have completed their regular seasons and are not involved in conference championship games. Their resumes are already complete, and this is the way the committee has them ranked. Pretty much everyone agrees that Georgia and Michigan are in the CFP whether they win or lose their conference championship games. Many people believe that TCU will still make the playoffs even if they lose. Regardless, even if TCU and USC both lost and fell out of the Top 4, Ohio State and Alabama would slide into those spots. UT had to be in the Top 6 in order to have any remaining shot at making the CFP, and they aren't.
