Vols at #5 CFP tonight? Nope, they're #7

Are rankings based upon teams and records or by players available ? Otherwise you just rank the teams by number of 5-star and 4-star players and throw out the records and the head to head match ups.
It's based on whatever criteria they need to apply in order to get the team in that they want.

LSU. 2019. Joe Burrow breaks his leg in the fourth quarter of the SEC Championship. You’re leaving them out of the playoffs. Fun times.

Don't recall enough about the '19 Tigers or the teams that were ranked behind them to say.

But I do know that this team without Hendon Hooker is far worse than it is with him.

If you can't see or accept that, it's probably time to take the orange blinders off.

It'd be the same situation if the reverse were true and Alabama won a thriller against us, but lost Bryce Young to injury. At that point they'd no longer be better than the Vols.

QB is far and away the most important position. Triply so when your defense is as awful as ours is.

They have FL State ahead of LSU due to head to head and they have Oregon State ahead of Oregon due to head to head. TN is the only one they threw that rationale out the window with. That's why folks are furious.

But South Carolina isn’t ahead of us or Clemson. And Utah isn’t ahead of USC, and Notre Dame isn’t ahead of Clemson, and LSU isn’t ahead of Bama, but, but, but…

Bama is a Bryce Young injury away from being on par with Texas A&M. We could absolutely beat them. TCU has nearly lost to multiple teams worse than UT. USC lost to freaking Utah.

But we couldn’t beat South Carolina with our QB.

Bama lost two games by a total of 3 points
We lost two games by a total of 39. Our star qb out we would of lost probably 5 games . Right now we wouldn't beat Bama or any other team in front of us.

Probably all true, but the gripe is the fact the CFP committee let other factors outweigh their stated criteria. Tbh, my only gripe is Bama being ranked ahead of us, not that we aren’t in the playoffs. If they’re not going to abide by stated criteria for the ranking process, and they didn’t, why even have stated criteria at all?

Bowl opportunities and therefore the CFP should be based on accomplishments, not projections. Our guys earned the right to play in the Sugar Bowl, with or without Hooker

I have zero posts and think this post make zero cents$$$. Clickbait and wishful thinking be damned. I'm satisfied with the improvement to a 10-2 record despite all the BullCocks of the world. Can I get a free like? I mean, I'd like me!

I know this sounds absolutely insane, so we will have to wait to see. My cousin has a friend that is close with the committee and he says we are jumping Ohio St and Bama for the #5 spot.
Now Georgia and Michigan are in no matter what, but if TCU or USC slips up we are in.

GBO- GO VOLS GO!

This was more amazing than the time Michael Jackson came over to your house to use the bathroom.

Even more amazing than the time you saved those old people from that nursing home fire.

And it was even more amazing than the time you ate your weight in Godfather's pizza.

I’m so tired of hearing but Bama lost games by 3 points & they won some very close games by a small margin too.

Oregon and Oregon State had same record. Oregon had better metrics. Oregon State won head to head. Oregon State ranked 1 spot ahead

LSU and FSU had same record. LSU had better metrics. FSU won head to head. FSU ranked 1 spot ahead.

Oregon and UCLA had same record. Oregon won. Oregon 1 spot ahead of UCLA.

MS State had same record as Ole Miss. Ole Miss had better metrics. Ms State won head to head. MSU ahead of Ole Miss

Tenn and Bama had same record. TN had better metrics. TN won head to head. Bama ranked 1 spot ahead of Tenn.

Which of these is not like the other??

Per CBS:

Underrated: No. 7 Tennessee

Why on Earth is Tennessee ranked below No. 6 Alabama? Because it has an ugly loss to No. 19 South Carolina? That looks way better now than it did two weeks ago when the world thought that South Carolina was a middling SEC East team with no upside. Conversely, Alabama's loss to No. 14 LSU -- a team Tennessee throttled in Baton Rouge -- looks worse after the Tigers lost to Texas A&M last weekend.

Oh, and there's that pesky little head-to-head matchup on Oct. 15 when the Volunteers topped the Crimson Tide 52-49. That should matter, but apparently it doesn't. Why? Is it because star Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker tore his ACL against South Carolina and Joe Milton is now at the helm? That is considered by the committee, but it isn't nearly enough to convince me.

Tennessee has a signature win over Alabama and a road win over LSU. What is Alabama's signature win? A Week 2 win at No. 20 Texas? A late-October home win over
No. 24 Mississippi State? Tennessee is being unjustly punished because it isn't a traditional power. It proved it deserves to be in line for a CFP spot if chaos ensues and, at the very least, earn the SEC's Sugar Bowl spot if it's left out.

Those teams don’t have comparable records. We have the same record as Bama, two top 15 wins to their zero, and the head to head win. And yes, one of our losses wasn’t great, but the other loss was to the best team in the country on the road. Had Bama played Georgia, they lose another and likely by a good bit. Their loss was to a team we destroyed on the road, so the opposite cannot be said.

The 2022 Vols CFP ship ran aground on Columbia Rock. No amount of debate, discussion, or demeaning the CFP Committee will refloat it. It is literally that simple, and obvious. Let it go.

Good Lord…

It amazes me how quick some are here to degrade this team without even mentioning what’s ranked ahead of us.

Not degrading the Vols. Please show me where I did. Include an explanation that makes the loss at USCe acceptable from a CFP standpoint.

Vols had a great season. Historic in some respects. Any of us would likely have taken 10-2 at the beginning of the year. But we played our way out of the CFP, and no amount of whining will get us back in. It is what it is.

It's not really any worse than 2007 LSU losing to Kentucky and Arkansas.

The important part isn't whether or not we should be top 4, it's whether or not we should be behind Bama. We beat them, did better against common opponents, but lost to a team they didn't play on the road. We have two top 15 wins. They have none. Their best win was a narrow victory with some very questionable calls from officials over a team that was hammered by TCU. Our worst loss is to a team that just beat the ACC Champions and knocked them out the playoff.

Your justification for Vols not being ranked higher only discusses the Vols shortcomings, as if we are the only team that has them. Yes, we should have taken care of business against the Gamecocks, but when you get past #3 (and that's likely to even include #3 after this weekend) all the teams failed to take care of business at least once throughout the season.

In other words, we should not expect respect from the CFP, but we should respect our season? Ok. Don't desire to reward our players appropriately and just enjoy the shaft.

The thing that ticks people off is that Bama is (marginally) better in 1 of the 7 objective criteria that the committee uses and they haven't played themselves out yet...
