Vols at #5 CFP tonight? Nope, they're #7

In other words, we should not expect respect from the CFP, but we should respect our season? Ok. Don't desire to reward our players appropriately and just enjoy the shaft.

We got respect from the CFP, or have you forgotten? UT was ranked #1. Lost. Then #4. Again, lost. This time by 25 to a 21 point ‘dog.

The CFP didn’t shaft this team; the team shafted itself.

So the “reward” is watching a board full of BVS moaners make every excuse they can to cover the obvious truth: UT had it’s chance, and crapped the bed. Again, simple as that.

Don't blame the committee. UT was a mediocre D away from winning the SEC and playing for a NC. The ranking was simply a reflection of UT not being a championship caliber team on one side of the ball.

You can make arguments for and against every team in the top 10. Frankly, I don't think any team that gives up 60+ points to any team at any point of the season "deserves" to be in the CFP. Not UT. No one.

Take the next month. Improve your D. Get healthy. Win on NYD. Get ready for a run next fall.

You are acting like we are lobbying to be ranked ahead of Georgia. You can go on and on about crapping the bed, but none of that justifies Bama ahead of Tennessee.

No, cfb fans should be upset as a whole. They didn't follow their own criteria and couldn't admit to the injury playing a role. It makes no sense they they be ranked behind them, and everyone knows it.

So what is the cutofff? Because had we missed the field goal on the Third Saturday in October, there is a very real chance Bama gives up 60. And why are random stats somehow important? Had we won every game while allowing 40 ppg, are you suggesting we shouldn’t be included?

Bama’s a better team right now. I’d take Bama against any of the Top 6 -vs- UT without Hooker and with our putrid defense.

And I absolutely loathe all things Bama.

They’ve certainly proved it against no one.

Our putrid defense outperformed theirs in all direct comparisons. Head to head, LSU, and Vanderbilt.

College Football Playoff Rankings reactions: LSU overrated, Tennessee underrated in penultimate top 25

Underrated: No. 7 Tennessee
Why on Earth is Tennessee ranked below No. 6 Alabama? Because it has an ugly loss to No. 19 South Carolina? That looks way better now than it did two weeks ago when the world thought that South Carolina was a middling SEC East team with no upside. Conversely, Alabama's loss to No. 14 LSU -- a team Tennessee throttled in Baton Rouge -- looks worse after the Tigers lost to Texas A&M last weekend.

Oh, and there's that pesky little head-to-head matchup on Oct. 15 when the Volunteers topped the Crimson Tide 52-49. That should matter, but apparently it doesn't. Why? Is it because star Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker tore his ACL against South Carolina and Joe Milton is now at the helm? That is considered by the committee, but it isn't nearly enough to convince me.

Tennessee has a signature win over Alabama and a road win over LSU. What is Alabama's signature win? A Week 2 win at No. 20 Texas? A late-October home win over No. 24 Mississippi State? Tennessee is being unjustly punished because it isn't a traditional power. It proved it deserves to be in line for a CFP spot if chaos ensues and, at the very least, earn the SEC's Sugar Bowl spot if it's left out.

So what you are saying is that beating Alabama counts for absolutely nothing? Why have a regular season at all? And I agree we don’t deserve to be in the playoff. But we sure as HECK deserve to be in the Sugar Bowl instead of a team we beat (and a team that got beat by a team we beat to boot).

We sound like Congress debating whether inflation is affecting the economy, or vice versa.

It is what it is. Great season. I’m good with whatever bowl we get. Hope every other SEC team loses. Hope UGA goes down in flames on national TV.

Close strong, recruit strong, fix the defense, and see you in ‘23.

Go Vols.

Let’s just play Bama in a bowl game and kick their ass twice in one year. Nothing would be better.

This is BVS.

Please sir may we have a scrap from your table?

While I agree with you, this perfectly illustrates what is (intentionally) f'd up about the whole CFP system. To rehash it yet again, we beat Bama and boatraced the other team that beat them at THEIR house. That should count for something, but apparently it doesn't.

The CFP is about as credible as the Heisman.

So you are OK with removing the objective criteria and replacing it with a subjective eye test?

Yes, Bama is probably better than everyone not named Georgia but those aren't the rules.....

Bama crapped the bed twice, barely beat 2 unranked teams, barely beat an overrated Texas on a blown call and they still have a chance.....

Their best win is a 4 loss Texas team on an admitted blown call.

Well, the cut off is that your D can't suck for whole games at a time.

I think UT should be ranked ahead of Bama too. Not just because the Vols beat them but because UT has more impressive wins. If I were on the committee then LSU would be my tipping point. UT smoked them. They beat Bama.

But the committee couldn't get USCe off their minds... and I understand that. It wasn't a 10 point loss or a competitive game or any of that. UT could not stop an O that had to that point been not much short of awful.

And how many "career days" should Banks and the D give up?

Beating Bama matters even if UT had finished 6-6. It was a good, landmark win.

Well, the cut off is that your D can't suck for whole games at a time.

They have an objective game control criteria that captures this. Essentially, us, Bama, OSU have same rating from 3-5. (It would be us, OSU, Bama if you factor in FCS game and Bama, OSU, us if you exclude FCS game)....

This whole thing just ticks me off. Whatever happened prior to the SoCar game has had a huge impact. It has prevented many of the players from ever competing for a championship of any kind and likely played a role in Hooker's injury. Had he not felt like he had to be superman, odds are he doesn't get injured.
The guys who return still have a shot in the future, but the guys who are not probably never will. Less than 2% of all NCAA football players play in the NFL. I would say less than 1% of those play in the Super Bowl. Really sad that some immaturity has had such a ripple effect. Short term choices can have long term, lasting consequences.

This is all rigged.

In order for us to maximize the trampoline effect, they wanted to position us as low as possible this week. No one will remember this week.

Next week, when it matters, the TCU and USC loses will springboard us past OSU and bammer into the third place game against MeatChicken.

Book it! Check my stats. Bob Mueller approves of this post.

to move into playoffs but if TCU and USC west win. Bummer players - like young, anderson etc will opt out of bowl game. Even midget might not show and that is a big joke. ( It is sad that politics has to continue in this playoff mess.)
