Good approach. Fighting in practice will certainly help out the half-court offense.

Did he say they were fighting or just having a physical practice?

He said they were basically doing everything other than punching each other. The point was that it was supposed to be an incredibly intense practice. My point was that physicality isn't the problem with this team. Having nothing that even resembles a half-court offense is.

Gotcha, and to your point, consistent intensity is a problem. Maybe he is just reminding them how important it is to keep that level high through out the game. But you're right, it will not help them with the half court offense.

This team needs a mean streak. There's a reason they whine about a not shooting enough free throws - they're not agressive to the point of being extremely passive.

beat each other up in practice... that will surely produce some leadership.

Hasn't pearl called out a player or players in the public arena 3 or 4 seasons in a row now? I remember some public criticism of point guard play a couple years ago. Not so much last year I don't think... since we were pretty much in rally the troops mode the whole year. I just know I've seen this routine from pearl at least 2 other times.

1,2, and 4 would rather dribble or try to do something on their own than pass to someone else open inside. They have had a handful of games where they got good ball movement and people movement, setting screens, playing unselfish --it was like magic.

Oh for the days of Dane Bradshaw and J.P. Prince and their ability to pass and play like a team.

Problem is, when you get Brian Williams open on the block, he misses.

When you someone a wide open look in the corner, they miss.

So you force your two offensive threats to take multiple contested shots.

The Vandy game was a physical game....seems maybe a good slug fest favors the VOLs...provided the refs let them play that way.

This is the time. Who cares about November?
Tomm is MARCH. Maybe they can peak like last year when it really matters.

It's not too late, 28th of Feb 2011 sounds like a good time to start playing some good basketball.

Seems like what they need in practice is shooting intensity. run and shoot, run and shoot over and over, shoot, shoot, shoot while breathless. Quick release, quicker, quicker, run, run, run, shoot, shoot and shoot. Forget the defense for a while. Defenders are not keeping them from hitting, their own psychology is.

People are upset because the team is trying hard in practice? That's next level.

Does a physical practice necessarily prevent the team from working on any halfcourt offense elements? If offensive concepts were ever going to click for this group, wouldn't that have happened already? How does this even register in the first place given the omnipresent off-court and on-court flaws of this team?
