Vols better suited for NIT?

Look at 2008 NIT winner Ohio State who was ranked in the preseason 2009 polls. With everyone coming back but Tatum, we will be ranked in top 25 next year if we can prove we can win on the road.

Sure, we could be ranked if we prove we can win on the road next year. We also have to prove we won't lose to crap teams early in the year. Winning the NIT (which is a big presumption, by the way) won't get us ranked.

Why would someone want to go to the nit over the ncaat? That's like saying you want to go to the little caesars bowl instead of a bcs bowl.

Maybe its just easier to shoot for mediocrity
I never want to go to the NIT. I never want to loose last two games of the year either.

I just think we get more from winning than from loosing.

nit will have not bearing on ranking next year. That ohio st team was suppose to make tourney, underachievers. Ask south carolina what two nit champst did for them. Cant believe this is even a discussion. We have fans in football that think we should win the sec every year and then fans in bball that wanted to got to nit. Smh

With a young team who lacks confidence on the road, I think this team would be better suited for NIT. Get a couple of home games, build confidence and hopefully make it to the Garden.

I agree with you. This team was picked 11th in the SEC. Let's go to the NIT and make a strong run at the NIT championship.

I would rather be in the NCAA, but don't think we make it this year. I will take the NIT if we don't. If we make it to NYC, we will get some good publicity and tourney experience. If we can get a good seed, we can play in TBA again this season. NIT will love the $$$ by playing in TBA.

I see your point, but ask Clemson fans your question and see how they respond after taking a 70 to whatever loss in the Orange Bowl.

Just cant believe this mentality I would take the bcs bowl 100 out of 100. some you dont take a bowl because you think you are going to lose. Wow

Anyone else just see Lunardi on ESPN..he had a list of 10 teams and decided which ones were the first four out. Tennessee wasn't even on that list.

Smh look at thread on tenn being a 13 seed. There are otherst who have us in but its probably not likely.

I hope that thread is right. It sickens me that Lunardi has teams like Drexel in, who haven't beaten a school anyone has heard of. No other bubble team has the quality wins that Tennessee has.

You don't get my point. I'd rather go to the NC tourney anytime. But I'm saying this team needs to play in a tournament where they have a chance to win and build momentum.

No I see exactly what you are saying. If we go to nit its a greater chance that we would play more games. We just have different opinions, I would rather go to ncaat and lose in first round. What if we lose the first game of nit? We can played the guessing game all day but I would rather be in the big dance and have and early exit. I think it is a moot point because I dont believe we get in.

They had that chance in New Orleans. Tournaments where you play the games at home won't do anything in the long run. If we could make it to MSG, that's at least closer to the real thing. With that being said, I will gladly accept a bid if that's all we have. But I would take a potential first round exit in the NCAA over a potential championship in the NIT. Any given night, anything can happen.

You do realize the nit championship is the 69th best team in the country.

Just because I have to watch Mississippi Valley State lose to 30 by Kentucky in the tourney doesn't mean they are better than us.

Automatic bids are dumb.

No momentum is carried over to next yr......how can you have momentum from something that happened a yr before.

NCAA would have been nice but our on the road effort is pretty bad at leastin the NIT we might win a couple games. If we decide to show up.Tatum playing harder now than all year. We didn't have much leadership at all on this team.We still try to make passes that 8th graders don't make.Still the end result they came back to have a desent year good for CM
