After watching idly by as rivals Florida (15), Alabama (14) and Georgia (10) produced double-digit NFL picks the past two years, Tennessee will welcome a busy draft weekend filled with multiple picks. "That's a byproduct of recruiting talent," Jones said. "It's a byproduct of development. I'm very excited for those kids. We didn't have very many draft choices, and now it's something that we can point to in recruiting.

"You come to the University of Tennessee and you come to play at the highest level, and you graduate and you get your degree and you go on to the National Football League. I'm excited for those individuals, but it does help in terms of player development and helping a young man reach toward his dreams of playing on Sundays."

You'd think this will translate in recruiting..it certainly helps. Think we have a "solid" class, and of all needs hope potential of early playing time gets us a couple surprises like LY...specifically in DB and WR.

Excited for the draft this year. Won't be able to negative recruit on this point anymore. Wonder if Vereen gets drafted

Who/what is LY?

Barnett, Dobbs, Kamara, Sutton, Malone are locks to be drafted. JRM should be but in worried about injury hurting him. Still can see him taking mid rds if his shoulder checks out. Hurd despite being a loser will get drafted but NT sure we can claim him now.

Vereen, Croom and Foreman have an outside shot at later rounds.

If Weisman didn't have so many injuries that will look bad during physical he would get drafted. He will be udfa.

I would be willing to bet money Hurd does not get drafted. NFL teams will shy away from a quitter. He quit because he did not like running back therefore why would a team risk someone who will quit on them? He wants to play tight end, he has never done that so cant imagine they would risk a draft pick. No way he gets drafted

Not only will he not get drafted I don't think he ever puts on a helmet again.

I have to admit that has crept into the back of my mind before too. Something is not right with him. Don't know if it is a physical thing or a mental thing.

I'm telling ya that hit in the end zone did it. Hasn't been the same since.

Agree. It changes the narrative that we don't put anybody in the league these days. It lessens the negative recruiting ammo for other programs imo, especially as we have 6-7 guys all at different positions.

He and his mom still contend he's transferring to another school, so it looks like he's not even gonna be in the draft this year. What a bad decision by that kid.

Im not so sure about that. If he was evaluated by NFL scouts and with his situation was given a poor grade due to quitting. Going somewhere and trying to rebuild his reputation might be the best thing for his chance of making a roster. If he sits a year and builds his character back and works on speed some more and has a good season he could climb back into relevance on some NFL teams boards.

You guys are crazy. A former 5 star player that was very productive in college isn't going undrafted. "Quitting" will hurt him a little but he will definitely be taken.

This. NFL GMs don't care about anything but saving their job these days and that means finding players with talent. If he is still on board in 4th/5th rd some GM will snatch him up on potential alone with low risk and tell coach to deal with the headache. If tyreek hill can go from beating up a chick during all the NFL spotlight on this typenof mess to hottest NFL player as a rookie then Hurd can get drafted too

Has combine invites been sent out yet? Would be interesting to see if he gets/got one.

How many carries did Hurd have at UT? What's his longest gain? Hurd simply doesn't have the speed or elusiveness to be an NFL RB. If he did, then he would have had several long TD runs during his college career.

On top of this, he added the questions concerning his commitment and desire. UDFA at best, but he doesn't stick.

Update:
589 carries for 2638 total yards at 4.48 average ypc.
In 2016 only 1 carry for >20 yards (28 vs Ohio).
Can anyone name another NFL RB who played significant college ball with an average ypc under 4.5?

Arian Foster was a pro bowler who averaged 4.6 in college.

You gotta have the want. I don't think he does anymore.

I think the same. I hope he hasn't had a brain injury that just hasn't been diagnosed. No one quits halfway through a season like that.
