*****Vols get #5 seed in NCAAT; play Oregon State

It’s a tough draw. PAC-12 is a bad conference, but any time you have to play a P5 conference champion in the first round is tough.

I don’t see any way we beat Oklahoma State. We don’t have anyone that can handle the #1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. And then outside of Gonzaga you have the 2nd best team in the country in Illinois. It’s just about as brutal of a stretch as you can imagine.

The GOOD news (yes there is some good news) is that the bottom half of the bracket is weaaaaaaak. If you can somehow make it to the Elite 8, we have a very good chance to make our first Final 4.

It's hard to believe but the bottom half is quite weak. ESPN showing UT with 11% chance to make final four. I wasoos expecting Cowboys to be a 3.. Wouldnt shock me to see Illini win it all.

You guys should handle OSU pretty well. Just don't let them hang around, they can be difficult to play if they get confident.
The real problem is that they have been on a tear beyond the arc. We've been better in recent games but our 3-pt defense is inconsistent.

Was it haywood that did or was it Tennessee itself. That game is still as painful as just about any Tennessee basketball game considering Tulsa was the elite 8 opposition
More like UT fell apart, up like 8 with 4 to go. Haywood fouled out, I believe and Julius Peppers killed us. But, I smoke a lot of weed, so I may be wrong

Ok state is not above us and its funny to me we are garnering no respect from them. They think they are going to coast to Illinois to the sweet 16. But, If we are playing our best ball and Oklahoma State is playing theirs I'd pick us every time.

Our ceiling is high. We had some lapses during the season. Its different now with loser going home. We are focused. We are coming off a closely contested loss to Bama, who I am predicting to get to the final 4. I think losing our Senior leadership in Fulky was the difference that game.

I wouldn't be overlooking us. Afterall we've shown what we can do when we start to click.

Here's the CBS Sports take on the Vols' chances in the tourney:

23

Tennessee
I can't help but still rank the Volunteers inside the top 25. The temptation is there. Yves Pons is a top-10 defender. Keon Johnson and Jaden Springer are a highly talented freshman duo. Is this their moment? Tennessee ranks fourth in adjusted defensive efficiency. Rick Barnes doesn't like his team shooting 3s, so this group doesn't have a realistic Final Four shot, but UT is loaded with dudes. They can turn off your water. Will we see the preseason top 10-level team show up this week?

That bolded part hurts

1st round win percentage.

1 - 99.3
2 - 94.3
3 - 85
4 - 79.9
5 - 66,9
6 - 63.8
7 - 60.4
8 - 51.2

The steep drop off is from 4 to 5. Relatively steady in other places. 12 seeds often seem to be mid-majors with senior laden teams or P5 teams that got on a heater in their tournament.

"They can turn off your water" - never heard that one before.

They couldn’t stop CJ Black inside all game, he had already fouled out Haywood, but Harris decided to shoot every trip down the floor the last four minutes. We totally gave that game away. Green just stood over there playing with his tie. That one still hurts. Most talented rosters we ever had imho...

Except it’s not even true. Numerous times this year Barnes has criticized them for NOT taking shots.

Well we are 250th in the country in three point attempt percentage this year and the highest we’ve finished under Barnes in that category is 152nd so yes it is true.

We don’t have a realistic final four shot because we don’t shoot 3s? We shoot more 3s than Illinois, Gonzaga, and Michigan. Lmao
