Vols in NBA Draft

You predicted that once he started going through without a and measurements his stock would continually decline, it’s doing the opposite.

I predicted correctly

Glad he didn’t fall all the way out of the first round like I said I wouldn’t be surprised to see but the athleticism almost made that happen. I was hoping for the top 25 like you said but that one combine area he did better than expected just wasn’t enough for that as you said

Would Keon have been a lottery pick (or close) if he’d stayed for another season which turned out well?

No, Kawhi is 6'7 and plays bigger, now he may take some of Grimes minutes, but very few of Keon's, imo. Clippers defense is going to be elite

Sorry it was late so I didn't have the thought processing ability to explain more. If Kawhi leaves, they can easily slide Batum/George down a spot and it opens the SG spot up to more minutes. Not necessarily meaning Keon starts but that's an easier pathway to the court than if Kawhi stays. Beverly/Batum/George/Leonard/Ibaka was their most used starting lineup this year. Don't think all of those guys will be returning but Ibaka not returning/etc does not help Keon. Just saying Kawhi leaving could possibly impact a more direct path to playing time.

I said he’s remain Top 25, I was off by 3 spots…you said he’d likely slip into 2nd round, so you also were off…funny how you ignore that part, but not surprising.

Lol

Hilarious. Go ahead and quote where I said he’d likely slip into the 2nd round ....

he slipped just as I said and the opposite you said. You do realize how many first round picks there were don’t you??

I think it’s fair to at least discuss both springer and Keon made mistakes not coming back
Especially keon. If he improves his shot he goes top 10 easily in 2022

Completely fair to discuss, however I think mistake is the wrong term. Perhaps "less good business decision that still works out incredibly well" is a more accurate term.

Unless he developed a consistent 38-40% 3 point shot, no. He made the right economic decision. The lottery teams in the NBA drafts on potential and this 2nd year in college would have hurt him in that regard.

If Keon shot well and improved his handle, then he could have been. The problem is that I doubt he would have been able to showcase enough in this offense to give scouts enough to move him up a ton. He still would have measured shorter with a shorter wingspan whether he came back or not, and that was a major reason he fell.

The NBA folks (and really most knowledgeable basketball people) hate the offense here. Even the Athletic's 2022 NBA mock draft had Kennedy Chandler going 17 and part of the reasoning was the doubt that he would look good and/or showcase what NBA teams want to see in our offense. It really isn't great for showcasing offensive fit at the next level at all.

Keon made the right economic decision. He could have maybe backed into the tail end of the lottery but he would have had to show improved handles and shot. If you are a first round pick, you made the smart decision since you are 1 year closer to free agency where you have the chance to make generation-altering money.

They made the right decision to go. Of the guys in the Top 10, only 2 (Wagner and Mitchell) played more than 1 year of college basketball and both of those picks have been panned. At best, Keon would be the tail end of the lottery and that would require a 38-40 3P% on significant volume. The limited upside in coming back ($1MM more per year) doesn't outweigh risks. You want to get to free agency where you can make generational changing type of $$$$ as quick as possible.

Keon landed in a good spot. Ever since Balmer acquired the team, the Clippers have been a solid organization. And some might disagree, but I think Lue is a solid head coach too.

As for Springer. Good luck lol. No city loves to hate their own more than Philly.

I've said all along that if you are a sure fire first round NBA draft pick you should leave. Glad you agree

There may be situations where it pays to stay but those are generally the exception and not the norm. Those situations were not the case here.

scanned over the last few pages here and didn’t see him mentioned, but what are our thoughts on Pons? I don’t think many on here thought he would be picked, but what comes next for him? I’ll never blame a kid for wanting to leave early and play professionally, but he could have used another year to work on his offense. Offensive skill has surpassed defense as the most sought after attribute in the NBA by a large margin. The role of the shut down defender in the NBA has been declining since the early 2000s. Pair that with being a liability on offense and you just aren’t worth it to NBA teams. I think he can still play in the D league and make it on an NBA roster, and I hope he does.

Pons has zero chance of making an NBA roster. He should make some good money overseas though. He may even prefer Europe anyway with his background and his wife being in the fashion industry.

I agree. I think the Clips are on the rise, and I also agree that Lue is probably underrated.

Yea, hard to call it a mistake when they’ll both make $1.7mm guaranteed for each of the next two years as a minimum.

Your statement is true but what about the new deal where they get paid for their likeness? could they have made 1.7 million or even 1 million and stayed for 1 or even 2 more years? What a team we would have this season!

Bottom line if you are picked in the first round you get guaranteed money there is no argument for Keon and Jaden to stay for another unless you want to show your ignorance.
