Vols lost this game because...

You are correct, the free throw line killed us. I wish Prince was in the don't foul mode later in the second half when he fouled a three point shooter who made all three free throws. That is 6 points right there due to Prince's shaky defense. I like Prince, but those were two pretty dumb defensive plays imo.

that was AA again

That is a play they run in practice all the time . The problem from the ut side was no-one wanted to defend it. Just stand within 5' and hope he misses .

I don't care if it is run in practice. He just threw a shot up - it had nothing to do with it being "skill". That shot would have even been considered lucky if Lofton hit that in a game situation with the clock winding down. Get real.

I understand we didn't guard him - that's not the point I was getting at.

If you run a play in practice enough then your odds of making it increase . pretty simple really . Go back and watch it wasn't thrown towards the basket it was actually shot at the basket.

Big difference between the two

Not really. I can shoot at the basket from almost mid court without forcing it too much. Maybe you need to hit the weights if you have to heave it with 1 hand.

Stop trying to act like it was skill. Anderson isn't really much of a shooter and he would miss that shot 95/100 times in a game situation.

So I guess if UT works on a full court heave enough we'll be as good as the Tigers and will make one. Get real - that shot was LUCK. That shot was about as far as the Chris Lofton shot @ Vanderbilt in '07. Except the difference is it was Anderson shooting it not one of the best 3-point shooters ever in the SEC.

Hopson looks to me like he'll need three years of college before turning pro--if in fact he's even pro material at all. These high school blue chips all go to college thinking they'll be leaving in a year, maybe two with their pockets stuffed with cash--partly because their entourage is smelling it. Of course, the NBA is not really much more than an exhalted form of college ball--given that the pro teams draft a lot of physically talented guys who aren't polished and need on-the-job training. Most are still raw when the join the NBA--and even the best take two or three years to really develop. I spent a little time around the Ct. program when Rudy Gay was a freshman--and there was much talk that he'd be one and done; his family certainly wanted that. But it was obvious that, while extremely athletic and skilled, he wasn't ready for the nba after his freshman year. He played a second year for the huskies--and I didn't think he was ready after that, but he got drafted 8th anyway and has become a good player this year. He was much better as a freshman than Hopson, but he was surrounded by better, more experienced talent.

that was a heck of a shot by AA though

It was a great shot and most likely a hand in the face would not have mattered. What matters to me is effort or the lack thereof. In order to win you cannot take defensive possessions off. Bruce Pearl will I am sure emphatically tell them this while watching the tapes in practice.

He should have been forced to at least shoot from half court , Tn defense gave up and just stood there hoping he missed a shot .

My theory is, Hopson must of seen Bruce cheating on his wife. Because there is no excuse for Hopson getting as many minutes as he does. He's unproductive, has no self confidence, and makes horrible decisions anytime the ball comes to him. I'd rather have Woolridge in there.

The only problem i've seen with that is Woolridge likes to jack up 3's as much as Chism. TN. is one consistent outside shooter away from being alot better . If you add some tough defense they'll be really good . JMO

I like Hopson's potential, but you are right, he is getting too many minutes. He needs to earn those minutes by being productive.

Who has been more productive with their minutes? Scotty is getting about 9 points in 21 minutes, pulling down a couple of rebounds, dishing a couple of assists. That's almost idenitcal to Tatum's line, who plays the same amount. Woolridge is scoring 4 points in 12 minutes and getting 2 boards. Hopson and Tatum have also shown the ability to put some fairly big numbers on the board when things are going well, albeit inconsistently.

Scotty may not have lived up to the expectations some on this board may have had for him yet, but he is at least as productive as any of the alternatives.
