i think that's what makes him "underrated". to be underrated, you have to have a perception of not being up to standard. Given the talent he's had to work with, minus the last two years, i think the previous 6 under a lesser coach, would have looked more like the last two.

To me, being underrated is like doing great things all the time and never getting any credit for it.. That's something that Nutt doesn't have to worry about.

Then there are no underrated coaches in the SEC.

Keep talking. I can't wait to reference this post on September 3rd and November 12th.

By the way, nothing that could happen on these dates could change my views on Nutt and since the future isn't here yet, I guess we're stuck with talking about the things he's done so far. So what exactly has he done?

Arkansas made bowl games in six consecutive seasons. Please point out anytime that happened before. Nutt earns everything he gets, unlike some SEC coaches who were born on third base and claim to have hit a triple.

Well, to underrate is to rate too low or undervalue something. I think that Nutt is probably right where he should be given his record. Maybe it's a bit much to say he's overrated, but he's definitely not underrated in my mind.

It's not like he has won NC's or SECC's for Arkansas. He's an average coach that fields an average team every year. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm of the mind that fielding an average SEC team at Arkansas requires an above average coach.

Well shoot, they should pay him 10 million a year with that kind of success.

It was a different conference, but Ken Hatfield was pretty darn good.

If Mike Hamilton or Doug Dickey were their AD, they probably would.

i agree with this statement, but do you think Nutt would have more success (sec champ, nc possibly) if he was a coach at UGA, UF, LSU etc....?

So good that he ended up at Rice, after screwing Clemson up.

I'm also looking at Ole Miss being picked last in the West. I know they had a very good recruiting class but how long does Coach O get before they run him out of town? They turned on Cutcliffe in one season after five winning seasons. Makes you wonder. :dunno:

If you can make the championship game at Arkansas, I think it's a fair bet he could win one at one of the power schools. I think any good coach can compete for for National Champioships at those schools. Winning one comes down to it being your year.

True, but in the mid to late 80s Hatfield was winning 9-10 games per year at Arkansas.

good question....seems the Ole Miss faithful have grown impatient. but i think Ole Miss will still be better than MSU this year, and will finish no better than 4th or 5th. 07, they might be ready to make some noise, but who knows? it will be interesting to see Shcaeffer playing and how he does....and they do have a couple of really good linebackers...patrick Willis is one i think...may be an all american by season's end.

could the same be said if you didn't win it, it just wasn't your year?

you could apply it to any coach that won a NC...there's always a game in most all instances where it seems it was destiny that that team would win....let's not get this started again? ok?

My favorite thing about Ford was his act. He acted like this country rube. In actuality, he was an Academic All American who majored in English. There's also a great story about Ford's daughter and Terry Allen, but it's a little too risque' for this board.

Depends on how competitive you are. If you're 2-9, you simply stink. If you go 11-1, with the loss being the result of a tough break, then it's not your year.
