Vols Ranked 18 for 2023 Way-Too-Early Rankings

Finish top 5 or 6 at least. Milton and co stomped a mud hole in Vandy and beat the #7 team in the country by 17……..no I don’t think 18 is fair at ALL.

In NO way should Tennessee be starting outside the top 10. They earned it, a lot of what played in the bowl returns plus their additions.

The O might not be quite as good however Heupel has proven capable, and the D should be much improved.

This poll is complete garbage and click bait. After we see who the final roster spots are filled with then we can get a more accurate feel for what we have. I predict top 10. But really who cares. Unranked to a #1 ranking this year. Rankings mean nothing until the end of the year.

Way too early for all these polls... but Texas being ahead of us is laughable. How long will their name carry them until they have to actually start performing consistently on the field?

We will start 2023 about where we end 2022: somewhere around #5.

Who knows where we'll start 2024, but since Josh Heupel will still be our head coach, I'm going to guess about the same place we start 2023: somewhere around #5. Maybe top 3.

Go Vols!

Who cares???????????????? Just perform on the field. When done well, it shuts up a lot of people. You people hand wrangle too much.

In truth, I'm good with starting at #18.

I think everyone, inside and outside of Tennessee, has undervalued what Hendon Hooker brought to this team, in his decision-making and his scrambling ability to create positive yards in chunks. I've been a Milton supporter all along, and think he will do fine. But Hendon was special in unmeasurable ways, and absolutely should have been in NYC.

Among the list of unknowns for next year's team is that, while Heupel has built a very healthy, desirable culture here, 2023 is the season where we see whether that culture--its work ethic, its values, its family closeness--has been successfully passed on to new players and locker room leaders. That's not an automatic.

I'm very optimistic about next season, but I'm not surprised that anyone looking in would wonder if last season was akin to the BasketVols of Bruce Pearl's first season: a serendipitous, over-achieving, lightening-in-a-bottle, anomaly.

But I'd be shocked if we didn't finish well above #18.

I had rather start low and move up the rankings, than start high and move down. In years past we have been ranked only to lose to, say UF, and lose the ranking. I think they are gun shy on our rankings. I love to prove the polsters wrong.

If pollsters cared enough to be gunshy they'd never have ND in the top 20 preseason

I think that's just silly. Another off-season of coaching for Milton, and he very well could end up in NY at the end of the year. We played the Orange bowl with most of next year's squad and beat up Clemson. No reason we shouldn't be in the top 10.

This is completely ridiculous and waaay too early. Too much can happen between now and Fall Practice.
