Vols Running Into The Perfect Storm (Literally & Figuratively)

The big unknown is the OSU locker room.

If Day still has the respect of his players, I predict they come out on fire to prove they are not the team that lost to UM, and they have their coach’s back. The motivation piece will be in their favor.

However, UT is sorta playing with “house money.” I don’t think anyone really expected UT to be a playoff / 10-2 team this year.

But OSU WAS expected to be a national championship contender.

If (a big if) we can get up on them 10-0 like we did against UGA . . . It may crumble for OSU.

My heart says will put out a win by field goal.

However, my gut tells me that OSU will win by a minimum of 10 pts.

Think about this: OSU has the talent (if not one of the best in the country) but never figured out how to put it altogether.

1.)Everyone and their uncle has trashed the program for the last month
2.) Coach on the brink of getting fired
3.) They're humiliated by their rival Mich.
4.) No one is given them a chance to win the Championship, when they were everyone's pick at the beginning of the season
5.) Media and fanbase has, literally, turned on them to the point where we're about to take over the horseshoe
6.) A lot of us Vol fans are under-estimating the cold weather. I seriously doubt we have a passing game, so we'll have to depend on our running game?
7) The Buckeyes are due for a breakout moment

I hope I'm wrong - my heart says the good-guys 24-20, however, my head says OSU is about to run the table and win the championship.
Totally disagree. Osu is overated…. Michigan came their homegirls and dominated them. Score final score was not an indication how game went . Vols 27. 13

Keep in mind it will be a 14 degree wind chill when the game starts. Not sure how much passing will be done. This looks like a ground and pound game and I think we have the edge in both running back, and defense. Windy and cold. Here's hoping their fans start leaving at halftime when we up 17 - 3.

OSU has talent but coach Heupel usually has his teams ready for non-conference games. UT is 17-2 in non-conference games and has outscored its opponents 950-246.

I firmly believe that we will be ready for the challenge in Neyland North.

That's a very emotional way of evaluating a matchup.

I’m glad I’m not such a pessimist.

I like the Vols chances, and I am excited to watch the game.

I too think we can win this game! However, we MUST play and score in BOTH halves. We can’t jump on them early, only to let them make halftime adjustments and shut us out the second half like UGA did. We don’t seem to be able to make effective changes during the game when our opponents figure us out. Also we’re in trouble if we don’t really get after the QB like we also failed against UGA. But…still GBO!!!

"The '93 State Penn game at the Shoe with 4" of snow is one that comes to mind, but that one wasn't as cold as tomorrow's game."

It's going to be cold even to Buckeye fans. I saw this on one of their boards comparing tomorrow to a Penn State game from 1993.

I looked up that game and there were 5 Penn State turnovers and at least 2 of them were interceptions. Keeping the ball secure is going to be a very big factor.

We got home cooked a little too
Actually we got home cooked MASSIVELY.

UGA's O-line plays nasty & gets away with it.
One play that they scored a TD late in the game, one of their left-sided lineman had our defensive lineman in a reverse naked chokehold with his entire upper body bent back, right in front of the referee, and didn't get called for it.

Regardless if they beat us or not, they will not win it all. I would find it difficult to believe that we win it all if we win this game. The path forward in our bracket is murder. OHST, then Oregon, then likely Texas, then to play Georgia again? Georgia couldn't win it all in this bracket. GA may be the best overall team right now but they aren't that much better than the rest of the top teams. They aren't Alabama in it's Saban prime.
I'm a Vol fan but I'm pragmatic. This game is about pride. Do we belong in the same sentence with Georgia, OHST, and Oregon? That's what tomorrow is about for me. If we lose. It's not time to "Fahr CJH!" It's time to work harder. We have the right coach. We are just shy on the horse power we need to be what we think we are.

Unless Nico has a complete breakout game... I think it will be turnovers and Special Teams.
I'm with you. This should be a defensive battle. Playing field position and pressing for turnovers mighy be the best game plan.

I will say this is the perfect opportunity for Nico to start cementing his legacy. Bug win on the road in the playoffs Vs OSU would look nice on the resume.

Teams pretty evenly matched. Expect a low scoring game and that usually means it boils down to turnovers and critical drive killing or drive allowing penalties, Should be interesting.

I think if our dline can get to the qb, we win this game. We didn’t get near beck all night and he torched us.
