Vols vs Florida Atlantic? Thoughts?

Why not? Everyone wants to talk about them having won 30 games as being relevant? They lost to Old Miss, UAB, and MTSU. Would we likely lose to those? Some of the teams they played I have never heard of before.
Are we the same team we were a month ago?

Looks like spread is Tennessee 5.5 point gavorite

I hope that it stays there or even moves toward even odds. TN needs some more motivation. An EE should be plenty, but the VN posters are probably more worked up over our NCAAT history than the players.

What are your thoughts on this matchup?

This will be a tough match up because they have 3 or 4 guys that can shoot the 3 ball and they also have a 7'1 inch center that Tennessee can throw four guys at.

I still think Tennessee gets to the Elite 8 for the second time in school history and a possible Final Four breakthrough if we draw Michigan State.

Today's Sports Source Show broke down all the remaining teams in the East Region on their You Tube channel.

The majority of that panel thinks that Tennessee reaches the Elite 8 while Chuck Cavalaris has Tennessee going all the way to Houston.

Let’s all just keep saying we have no chance. Anybody know some of our players? Tell them how much they suck, that they have no chance and always choke in March. Gonna be so bad I doubt I’ll even watch the game…

I just watched the FAU post-game, and when asked about how they would prepare for Tennessee, their coach said "we're going to study up on Australian rugby rules, and get ready for the Vols."

Screw that noise. They're already setting the stage to pull the officals into calling anything and everything to help them - and ESPN's been laying the groundwork for that nonsense as well. This "Tennessee plays in the mud" narrative is a load of crap, but I've heard several sports journalists use that expression independent of one another. They're all going to work that narrative this week. Expect to hear that "in the mud" business for as long as Tennessee's in the tournament. I hope it doesn't unduly influence the officiating.
I think it was ON in the post game press conference that started the "in the mud" chatter.

All teams are dangerous at this time of the year. Having said that, Tennessee has so much larger, so much better defensively than anything they have seen, we are better conditioned, so much more big game experience. They have some good three-point makers. We shall see!!

Oh, fair enough, then I sit corrected on that one - I thought the reporter said it first, but I must have missed that part of ON's response in the presser.

Wherever it started, or whatever it's called, that narrative about Tennessee's physicality is going to be what everyone talks about this week when it comes to Tennessee-FAU, and I hope it doesn't result in a game where Tennessee is refereed differently than FAU during the game. ESPN's doing a preview of Tennessee-FAU right now, and their analyst focused on how the "grabbing, holding, and physicality of Tennessee" would be treated as a big factor in the game. Meh.

Im confident our overall size and our team speed will make them very uncomfortable. Our length will make their jumpers a bit more difficult than FDU. Prediction UT 72 FAU 62

Their coach and the national media already setting the stage for the officials to to call a foul on us every time we breathe. What a joke. We play 35 games without a whisper of us being dirty. Then we play the softest team in the history of basketball (I’m including little girls YMCA league) and we’re all of a sudden the bad boy pistons. Lame…

Yes, definitely BVS—I’m used to disappointment under Barnes. Terrible matchup for us too. This is a poor man’s Mizzou.
Disappointment under Barnes? I guess you’ve never been close to being happy in your entire Vol fandom. Have some perspective
Best run in history of the program.
As good a recruiter as they have had

I hate to look ahead. It seems like there’s always a pretty much unknown name being in the EE mix and Florida Atlantic is that name this year. BUT… imagine if both TN and Bama were to make their first ever Final Fours and go head-to-head for either’s first ever championship game appearance. Huge bragging rights would be on the line. Bama has the easier path. #5 San Diego State and then the winner of #15 Princeton and #6 Creighton.

Now back to the thing directly in front of us. The Florida Atlantic Hooters from Conference USA. We have a gift not drawing #1 Purdue next. Let’s not blow the opportunity dammit. BVS. BVS. BVS.

ESPN just reseeded the 16-team field and has Princeton at 15 and FAU at 16. Y’all, we’ve been given a gift and we should beat them easily. In order to advance you’re gonna have to beat some good teams, but count this as about as favorable of a scenario as we could have been given! We got this!
