Vols vs Florida Atlantic? Thoughts?

I must have BVS too, because if Duke had beaten us, I'd have probably assumed they got a cakewalk to the Elite Eight. But Duke didn't win and now I'm nervous. Go figure.

I don't think it's BVS; from the moment Duke was revealed on Selection Sunday, everyone - and I mean everyone - said Duke was underseeded, that they were given a "gift" by being placed in a pod with Tennessee, and that Duke's winning streak was a sign they were ascendant. Almost everyone picked Duke to come out of the East. We were drowning in that talk from sports media all week. Easy to absorb some of that mentality; I think most of us did to an extent.

But all that's out the door, and now two more W's gets someone to the Final Four. Nerves make sense. 16 teams left, and Tennessee is one of them. Now it's real - now we can start to really believe. Not in the idea of winning, but the idea that Tennessee has a real shot. So nerves make sense.

Fla will not care who they play. They'll cut loose with the threen and run.We play our game and if we are ahead,no slowing up.If we have the chance to bury them on a run, better damn well.do.it.Do not ,anybody think we'll.walk away with this game from the start, remember Loyola.or Dayton in 67.Any team now can walk.you.over and never think twice about it.just lay it out on every play cause you win or pack it up.Myself,I want to see alot more.Orange in this tournament!

Disappointment under Barnes? I guess you’ve never been close to being happy in your entire Vol fandom. Have some perspective
Best run in history of the program.
As good a recruiter as they have had
Tied for Best record vs Kentucky Schedules the best and consistently wins
Most consecutive NCAA trips in program history
SEC TITLE
SEC TOURNAMENT CHAMPS
His kids are very easy to root for…
All this whole having an season ending or de habilitating injury to a key player just before or even during NCAA tournament.
Enjoy the ride because it’ll be hard to top

Still some work to do on this one:
Most consecutive NCAA trips in program history. Bruce has 6x. Green has 4x. We’re at 5x (with the COVID asterisk in 2020).

But being AP #1 for a month is an all-time best. And being ranked every week of the season is very rare (although it was the Top 20 instead of the Top 25 until about 40 years ago).

(Almost) Completely up to us. Lock down defense, any kind of offensive flow at all, no stupid turnovers, and it's a 20 point win. The "almost" is, if the refs get whistle-happy, all bets are off.

1967 Dayton was the NCAAT runner up and it took Lew Alcindor and John Wooden to stop them.

Almost 100% sure that ESPN talking Jack***** hammering home all of the bad officiating and bully ball talk will effect the whistle for next game. They will be watching like hawks and I’d bet this weeks paycheck they’ll call 20 plus fouls on the boys. Gonna be a tough game imho.

Should have. It was TN’s first ever NCAAT. But even if it was on TV - dialing in the vertical hold was a challenge. And if it was on UHF, forget about it.

But bulletin board material as well. Crappy officiating shouldn’t rattle us.

I don’t think it will rattle us but when Santi and Mashack and JJJ are working hard to fight through, over, and around screeners, plus any bumping or reaching they do they could pick up some early foul trouble and that would be a tough spot

It will affect the game, but we’ve been seeing those **** whistles all season. Next man up. And hopefully if shots aren’t falling we’ll be grabbing a ton of offensive boards and getting easy put-backs.

I hope that FAU isn’t loaded with free throw shooters. They might could hurt us more at the FT line rather than from putting our players on the bench.

From what I've read, they don't shoot a lot of FTs per game, and they are just average when they do.

They’re 8th in the country in rebounds and 5th in defensive rebounds. Not as impressive on the offensive boards (72nd).

42nd in 3-point percentage (36.9%).

184th in free throw percentage (71.7%).

209th in free throw attempts.

Blocks: 293rd
Turnovers: 261st
Assists: 79th
Fouls: 277th
Steals: 156th

If we can prevent them from going crazy knocking down 3s AND we successfully hit the offensive boards it should be an easy out.

If we can hold them under 32% from ,3pt and keep them off the line...Vols are E8 bound....Davis and Martin are due for a good 3pt shooting game...smother them and drive to the hoop....get in their head space early swat everything...and they will rush shots

Nothing would encapsulate our season more than beating duke to then lose to florida atlantic subsequently afterwards

What are your thoughts on this matchup?

Duke and ACC were soft AF this year. FAU is leaner and quick but I don’t envision them being more physical team/conference than ACC…. Tennessee should (emphasis on should) K.I.S.S. this game and overpower them.
