Last thing we need is Tulane or UCF in the cotton bowl. All risk no reward
Yep. Think Utah-Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl. Uninspired Bammers get embarrassed. Team might be a little more excited since we haven’t been to an NY6 game in a long time but lining up against a YACC team? If we end up there so be it. Will certainly watch but won’t be jumping up and down.Exactly, as we think back before season, we would be exceedingly happy with 10 & 2 BUT if someone told me they had a crystal ball before season and said we will be going to a Bowl game and either playing Tulane or UCF. I would think oh well guess we are going to the New Orleans Bowl or the Lending Tree Bowl in Mobile or the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa. 2nd tier teams usually means 2nd tier bowls. Win you get a W over a 2nd tier lose and your lambasted all year by not being able to get your team ready for a uninspiring game. That would set a trend. It's a lose/lose for UT IMO.
Let's see:Some of these comments absolutely baffle me. In the past 15 years or die any of us would have killed to have TN in the Cotton bowl. Now that that might be where we are headed some of you are acting like it’s the music city bowl. Comical.
Cotton bowl is a great game all except for the AAU tie in. Is what it is. Coaches are going to have to dig deep to get their players motivated to play Group of 5 teams. Especially in this setting. Sad but so very true.
But we don’t care too get shut out of a better bowl that should go to us. It’s not about the cotton it’s about getting screwed from the Orange that could be disgraceful. I will point out a Fact though. As long as the cotton is taking the conference champ from a lower tier bowl no power 5 team is going to be clamoring to go there. No disrespect for them just telling the truth. I will be glad for a 12 team playoff. At least playing them types of teams when there more is on the line will be more motivation. GBO!
Regardless of which bowl it is, that situation was a bone thrown to the G5 schools to appease them. Let’s call it what it is. As several have pointed out, it is a no win situation for any school that gets stuck with them in a bowl game and why the vast majority of our fans will not be very excited if it happens. I hope the Rose Bowl and the Big 10 do what they are supposed to do but I’m not counting on that self serving bunch to do that.To be fair to the Cotton Bowl, the bowl only does that once every 3 years (specifically during the season that the Fiesta Bowl and Peach Bowl host the semifinal games).
During the other seasons, the highest ranked Group of 5 Champion goes to the either the Peach Bowl or the Fiesta Bowl. (Pretty much it’s a rotation to make sure each of those bowls has to host the highest ranked Group of 5 Champion once over a three year period.)
