vols vs sooners question

I honestly think we're going to be a lot like Ole Miss was this past season. A lot of young talent, we'll win a game we shouldn't win next year IMO. Idk if it will be against OU but we will be more talented next year IMO.

Hey guys, if you want to see ahead of time who will be a top 5 team the coming years just look at Tennessee's OOC game and Western Division SEC game! We get so damn unlucky...

When I was watching the OU/Bama game last night, I was thinking that we don't stand a chance against either team. After thinking more about it, my thoughts were just a knee jerk reaction.

Did OU play a great game? Yes. Did their QB and D play a great game? Yes. Do those things have anything to do with when we play them? Absolutely not. Nobody knows how good we are going to be. Like many have said Auburn was 3-9 in 2012 and 11-1 in 2013. I am not saying we are gonna go 11-1 but saying we have no chance or need to buy this game out is utterly ridiculous.

How do we know Fergy or Dobbs won't be the second coming of Peyton this season? How do we know that North won't completely ball out this season? How do we know our D and O line won't be elite in the SEC? The fact is we don't know any of these things. We can speculate all day long but in the end, nobody knows anything until the games are played.

Amen. The UT that I support is not afraid to play anyone at anytime. Iron sharpens Iron.

The current UT I support is 15-21 the last 3 years with no bowl appearances.... was blown out 59-14 last year vs their best out of conference opponent..... and very badly needs to find 6 or more wins to get to a bowl ASAP. Playing Oklahoma isn't gonna help.

I'm not 100% either way. I see the value of playing top competition, everyone does, I got it. I also see the value in not getting a very young team embarrassed early in the season and scheduling another more beatable team. Most top teams in the SEC and around the country have taken the latter position, especially since it hasn't hurt their chances of playing for championships.... and we're not even talking about UT playing for a championship.... just bowl eligibility.

Real questions:

How much would it cost to buy out the Sooner game?

Assuming we can, would we have to buy out the series?

At this late date, which FBS teams could we realistically replace them with? For this year, and the next game?

Would buying out a quality OOC game hurt recruiting?

Any other logistics?

I am opposed, for many reasons.

They blew bammer right out of the stadium. Then again bammer turned out it's worst team of the last 40 plus years last year (record notwithstanding), so there's that to consider. I think we will give them a game for the first half. Then, they will pull away and win by 17 or so.

How do you know Peterman won't be the next Manning, for that matter?

Lol @ this, I guess anything can happen but Manning stepped in as a Freshman and play amazingly. Peterman was 4/11 for 5 yds and 2 INTS. Oh and he helped Neal fumble on the first offensive play of the game. I'm willing to bet big he'll never be the next Manning as you say.

It's a complete myth that Manning was great from Day 1.

not right away or else he wouldn't have split time with another freshman and a 1st baseman

He was 7/14 for 79 yds 0/0 TD/INT in his first career start @ UT.

Modest beginnings for sure, but man Peterman just had a rough go. It would make for a great story to see him come back and be awesome in 2014, ESPN would eat that up.

Are they gonna be loaded next year or rebuilding ?how do they measure up against the vols? Ihave family in Norman and just wondering if yall think it could be a game we could win? Dont wanna make the long drive to watch us get blown out

pretty sad times when you base your decision to go watch the vols play on whether or not they will be "blown out".
