Who cares???

I love the passion of our fans, if your not with us your against us.

Do you think LSU fans apologized when chanting f*** You Saban, at Death Valley? NO

And LSU fans are known as some of the ****tiest rednecks in the country.

I'd rather not have my alma mater turn into the West Virginia of the SEC.

This is exactly what you get when you give over-reacting, uneducated, entitled people access to social media where they can hide behind their computer and voice their personal opinions without any consequence.

They are stupid, but think they are "passionate"

Agree there are some very ignorant opinions; however, everyone is entitled to his opinion no matter how ignorant it may be. Just because you don't agree with someone or even think their opinion to be stupid does not mean that you are always right or that yours is the only one that matters. Stupid people have the same rights and in most cases the same privileges as everyone else.

Hate to say it but of course you're going to get crucified over that. Look at the football forum. This thread is a shining bastion of reason.

I'm damn ashamed of all the hillbilly sidewalk fans ruining the beauty and excitement of being a Vol.

get a new avi :clapping:

Proof that while the first amendment comes with some protected freedoms, certain speech being one of them, we are supposed to exercise some caution and accountability when given a voice.

I have read some things, today especially, that make me wish that some people would hang up their orange. Sad day when a potential assistant coaching candidate, who played for our school, gets harassed on twitter. We should have seen it coming when our new coach got a dose of it as soon as he took the job.

Absolutely terrible.

Websites like Volnation, in turn, are a double edged sword. It creates a good outlet for some fans who want to learn and mingle with others who support their team but it also creates an echo chamber for the sort of nut-job who harasses former players, recruits or others using social media.

Let's all show some class and perhaps a little accountability for our fellow Vols when we see them flying off of the handle.

My favorite post ever

Imagine Tuscaloosa if Saban had left after one season.... Imagine Bama fans after several losing seasons that were hallmarked by spectcularly bad coaching... No SEC wins that mattered in three or more seasons...

It is the Lane Kiffin strategy. Any news is good news. Just does not work out right. Think before you type or for the ones that can't just ask and do what the minority says.

Welcome to the real world. I don't agree with the junk that's being thrown out there, but it takes all kinds.

I agree......tee should have not courted tennessee and crossed the country with family in tow unless he was taking the job... He is here or I am here what did that statement mean. Bad situation.....add to the fact it was another loss to the jacka$$ of all time lame... Powder keg.....it's his choice can't do anything about it but again we were toyed with by Tee, Gruden and lame.... Frankly I am tired of being whored out....reminds me of the ambles recruitment......next time tee save us time and a buck by just calling and saying no...

THIS!

You're lying to yourself if you believe Tee wasn't toying with Tennessee. He did so at the wrong time. The nerves are raw, the program down, fans are restless.

It's America, you can express your thoughts freely.

Quite frankly, while Tee contributed to the 1998 national title, there are quite a few other Vols who never get mentioned. Yeah, he was the QB, but other than that shining moment, what did he do? He had a chance to help bring his alma mater back, and he spurned the Vols. To especially do so by remaining on the staff of Satan at USC, he put himself in the position of rightly receiving a lot of criticism from the Vol nation. He deserves it.

Flame me, hate me, tell me you can't fix stupid, tell me it's classless. Tell Tee that first, because his cross country family two day tour was a hoax, at our expense, on all accounts. He can stay at USC.

You do realize that there literally could have been 100's of reasons that it didn't work out? Perhaps he came and his wife didn't like it. Perhaps he came and he didn't like Butch. Perhaps he came and realized that he could never live up to the expectations of the sort of fan base that would tweet him such awful things if he didn't take the job.

Paranoia comes from lack of confidence. When did people who call themselves "Volunteers" lose any sense of what that word and tradition actually mean?

So is Tee a big boy or not? If he is then the tweets are meaningless.......if he isn't then he probably has his feelings hurt. If you are going to dwell in the land of instant gratification, don't get upset when it doesn't go your way. Easy thing to do is close the twitter account and don't subject yourself to the criticism.

Might be time to start dumping some anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, and anti-anxiety medicine into the water supply of Tennessee.

But are we the worst of them though? Show me a more irrational and outspoken fanbase than us.

Um... there is an Alabama fan in the big-house right now because of his irrational "treatment" of a passed-out LSU fan.

Additionally, trees on Toomer's Corner, if they could speak before they die, might argue that Vol fans are NOT, in fact, the most irrational.

IMO You take the Tennessee football program and you look at it's fan base. If somebody was to ask me what I thought led us to where we are now and I would say years of our football program slowly declining finally caught up with us. You look at Tennessee from 99' through 2008 under Fulmer I think the frustration started building. By the time Fulmer was let go this fan base had done lost a lot of hope with our football program. In 2009 you bring in Lane Kiffin this loud out spoken guy who just seem to rattle off at the mouth. Kiffin to this program was like a shot of energy to a dead football. His departure happen like it did really sent the frustration into high gear. Then you bring in Dooley somebody that was in over his head from day one. All the things that we went through during his 3 year tenure. LSU, North Carolina and all the second half debacles and the blow outs etc.. Inside the last 5 years as things have really went south the media and everybody outside of the Tennessee family keep saying Tennessee done, they will never rebuild and they start listing all these reason why. I just think that some of the fan base has listened to this so much that who ever we can get that going to turn it around we just embrace to the fullest and when they turn us down it basically just adding to the frustration and anger at the fact we are not a successful program any more.

Well said.........well written, not so much.

To our credit, there are plenty of soccer hooligans around the globe that don't have Twitter but throw grenades under buses, flares on the field, bring knives to games, etc etc

Florida weekend this year would have been a lot different

Your Alma Mater is in the middle of the HILLS of East Tennessee. We are hillbillies! If you have a problem with hillbillies and rednecks, you need to reevaluate your allegiances. I am sure Lame would welcome you and your higher calling to USC. You are the "kind" that we talk about when we talk about that "kind". And that isn't a compliment.

Worse than Knoxville by a LONG shot. I lived amongst them for a long time. Bama losing to Auburn a couple of years in a row? They would have cut those trees down and burned them on the lawn. We are far from the worst. We just happen to be one of the big fish having trouble now. Since social media has become the rage, we are probably the biggest fish in the pond to have had trouble not stemming from the NCAA. Let a Bama, FL, LSU, or GA have our problems and the backlash will be the exact same or maybe even worse.

But are we the worst of them though? Show me a more irrational and outspoken fanbase than us.

I personally witnessed the Swamp in '93, Shuler's last year. When Fla would score or get a turnover, the upper deck would erupt in a hail of debris rained down upon the orange-clad visitor's section. From my vantage point of relative safety in the endzone, there were times I could hardly see the fans through all the projectiles.

I have never in my life, in any venue, witnessed anything like it. I swore I'd never go back, and I have not.

I don't give a care about the whole state of Fla! Worst fans ever.

PS. On the same trip, walking back to the car, a pair of frat boys were heckling two little old lady Vol fans. They cursed the ladies like sailors. I was about 20 feet behind them. They had to be at least 70 years old. Way to go Gator fans: you cussed out a granny. I'm sure your mommy is proud.

Well, folks from East Tennessee are very passionate people. I agree taking to twitter and verbally assaulting Tee was low rent. At the end of the day, what's done is done. Folks should think before they spew that crap, but every, i mean every, fan base does it.

Folks felt like he turned his back on us for the ultimate insult, Lane Kiffin. That got people in an uproar.

Tee had his reasons and those should be respected, i just wish he would have went about it on a quieter level.

I got a reality check for you champ...Tee Martin does not owe us ANYTHING!...He came across the country to see what was being offered and as you can see it was a much less attractive situation than what he is in now....And he was probably offered a lot less money as well and that stuff does not get discussed over a damn telephone....He did what he felt was the best for his family...Plus living in LA is fabulous, Warm all year round and a recruiters dream.
