Volunteer behavior getting national attention

Well, this s*** happens everywhere and all over the world so it's no big deal. Tennessee fans aren't the only ones...

FALSE!!! I live in Ohio.....Tressel went out on pretty bad circumstances. Not near the the hostility was shown, that Vol fans express. Luke Fickel, who was not ready to be a Big 10 coach, is at least appreciated for the effort. I love the Vols, but when you live on the outside looking in......it's pretty bad.

Bammers are waaay worse. They are irrational and uneducated even when they are winning!! They just don't know how to tweet!

They poison stuff when they lose and sexually assault other men (in a public place no less!!) when they WIN! I've never seen that out of this fanbase....

This is exactly what you get when you give over-reacting, uneducated, entitled people access to social media where they can hide behind their computer and voice their personal opinions without any consequence.

They are stupid, but think they are "passionate"

Exactly and as Ron White said. "You can't fix stupid"

the media likes to pick on people that are down, if UT was any good, and we werent getting turned down by coaches on every news station this would never be a story,.,

what guts they have. I get so sick of reading the junk from our so called fans. Embarrassing. Like a methhead relative. Just embarrassing for us all that people have to act like that over football games, coaches and players, then try to rationalize it, just like the Tee Martin hate. Fine to be disappointed he isn't coaching here, but give me a break with the drama.

Ridiculous.

If Tee Martin was trying to avoid a passionate fanbase he couldn't have picked a better place than USC.

For the record: The same guys that are taking things so poorly now are the ones that will drop $1,500 when they only have $1,501 to see UT play across the country.

You're probably right about that. Some of our most loyal supporters that use their wallets to talk as much as their keyboards likely cause a lot of the twitter mess. I just wish they could keep it up and be great vols without making a UT shirt look like an "I'm with stupid --> " shirt.

Proof that while the first amendment comes with some protected freedoms, certain speech being one of them, we are supposed to exercise some caution and accountability when given a voice.

I have read some things, today especially, that make me wish that some people would hang up their orange. Sad day when a potential assistant coaching candidate, who played for our school, gets harassed on twitter. We should have seen it coming when our new coach got a dose of it as soon as he took the job.

Absolutely terrible.

Websites like Volnation, in turn, are a double edged sword. It creates a good outlet for some fans who want to learn and mingle with others who support their team but it also creates an echo chamber for the sort of nut-job who harasses former players, recruits or others using social media.

Let's all show some class and perhaps a little accountability for our fellow Vols when we see them flying off of the handle.

Well said, man. And if Tee just happens to read this, Big Man, don't let the words of a few village idiots tarnish your opinion of your true fans. We have been, are, and always will be proud of you.

Hey, you just gave me an idea. Get someone to create an orange and white Tshirt that says "I am NOT with Stupid" to show our disdain for the morons who are embarrassing the Vols. I bet it will sell hot, and be shown aplenty at the next televised game.

I disagree in part. Regardless of Tennessee's success or failure, if some of us do something stupid, it gets press. I have no explanation why, except for perhaps that years ago when so many other programs were caught breaking rules, Tennessee stayed clean (or we covered our tracks better).

Regardless, it is time for the TRUE Vol fans to do what they can to polish the power T, and regain what is rightfully ours; the envy of every other program in the nation. Whether you dress preppy, or in overalls, drive a mercedes or a pickup, that just doesn't matter. When we come together as Vol Fans, we are part of something special, that no other program can touch.

If we can be the fans that those special athletes that wear our colors can be proud of, I can't help but believe that the way they play will be what we can be proud of. Volunteer Pride, Volunteer Class. Let's show the world what it is all about.

"No big deal"? Really!!? Unfortunately, you're right. We "aren't the only ones". But, wouldn't it be nice if we were the only ones that didn't have a p1ss poor attitude? As the BEST, most PASSIONATE fan base in the country it is our duty to be better than this and to show some class.

Welcome to the real world. I don't agree with the junk that's being thrown out there, but it takes all kinds.

I hate the cliche you ended you're post with. If it DOES take all kinds, does that mean you would have let Hitler win the second world war, or instead of putting his cronies on trial and executing them, would you have pardoned the Nazis? It would be a much better world if more people stood against what they know to be unacceptable.

Honestly, is ANYBODY surprised?

Tennessee is a top 10 program all time in college football that has had to endure what is arguably the worst stretch in program history over the last five or so years, a time that has seen rivals like Florida and Alabama enjoy unprecedented success.

The Volunteers have been dragged through the mud by the media, coaches, and players over the past few seasons. This is a program with an incredibly passionate fanbase that lives and dies with their team.

With all that UT has to offer in a football sense, fans are getting frustrated with the results on the field, and this is with good reason.

While I agree that some fans are ridiculous, EVERY fanbase of a team as big as Tennessee has crazy fans. Come on, y'all.

Alabama fans have teabagged and poisoned trees. Oh, and who could forget the Alabama fan who shot and killed an LSU fan back in 2008?

LSU fans threw beer bottles at OUR BUS in 2005.

An Oklahoma fan nearly castrated a Texas fan in a bar fight back in 2007.

Having lived in Michigan during the Rich Rodriguez era, there was a ridiculous amount of hateful and irrational statements directed at the Michigan football program from 2008-2010.

The media LOVES to kick a person when they're down. If this were ANY relevant program going through this much of a slump, they'd be all over them, too.

Sure, I'd love if some fans behaved better. However, to act like we are the worst fanbase is completely asinine and pretty darn stupid.

What did he think would happen when he said no. Give me a break, and to beat it all he shunned us for a coach that done the same, double whammy. And I'm guessing you like your freedom to post what you like, I believe its the same across the board. Could be worse, some people could poison some trees I guess.
