No one said anything about coaching being an art form. You don't disagree that he's a bad X's and O's coach? Do you remember a half court offense under Bruce because I don't and I'm checking with people here at my office and they don't either. I just want to hear your opinion on Bruce and his offense.

I will admit that it certainly wasn't textbook looking. I can't say that he's a bad X and O coach because I'm not an expert. And not to be an ass but I don't care if it looks like something from the 1950s or a And 1 street ball tape. I just want to go back to winning.

Bruce's coaching had its flaws, but it looked like he had really turned a corner when we received the gut punch of the news. That Elite Eight was followed up with the NIT win and victory at Pitt, before the team tanked when news leaked that suggested Bruce would be canned after the season.

Pearl's Elite 8 team averaged 73 points and was a halfcourt team which ran when the opportunity presented itself. His first 3 UT teams averaged over 80 points and pressed. The style in 2009-10 was completely different.

Bruce didn't leave top 25 talent, true. Peterson didn't leave top 40 talent and Pearl still found a way to go dancing.

But he inherited Lofton who had averaged double figures his freshman year. He bailed us out on many occasions. One of the most clutch players ever. He didn't leave anybody like that. McRae was nothing under Pearl. Lofton was already all Freshman and a clutch player .

Bruce is not a good coach. Bad X's and O's, no offense and jusrt depends on chaos. He gambles more than he game plans. Some of you Bruce lovers should at least know that since you hang by his every move.

that's fine we played a great game today just a few miscues that cost us the game but we played hard the season is not over I am a cuonzo supporter till he leaves and just my opinion and probably only my opinion but I hope martin stays he is a good coach

Pearl was lucky to inherit Lofton, but McRae was a freshman under Pearl on a team that included Hopson and Tobias Harris. McRae improved a lot the next season, but I don't think it's fair to say he wouldn't have progressed under the coach he came here to play for.

He'd be 6-11 with this roster. On his last two teams there was pro talent everywhere. He'd actually have to coach offense with this team and would have no idea how.

Ok - this is just stupid and wrong - let's take Pearl's return off the table. Pearl has more personality, his teams played with more emotion, and he recruited better ( sometimes at bar-b-q's.) He took UT to 6 NCAA tournaments. Most of his teams played hard and as memory serves - we beat a number of top 5 teams in TB. Kansas, Florida, Kentucky come to mind.

I thought we played hard and smart the first half - but we had several starters out of gas for the second half. Kentucky was deeper - our bench - uhhhhgggg.

I think Coach Pearl is a good guy but will not be coming back. Should he - I'm not sure. I think Coach Martin is a good guy.

Here is my prediction regarding Coach Martin - he will have a bubble team this year - and we may get into the tournament or we may just miss - but either way Martin will be back next year. It will come down to which outside shooting team shows up for us the rest of the year. Our outside shooters are consistently inconsistent. As they go the rest of the year - we go. Whining about Martin's coaching or recruiting really is a moot point in my opinion. Here is why. Now on to next year.

Barring the most amazing class of incoming freshmen in recent memory - and assuming Stokes goes pro ( and no doubt he had a good game today and raised his stock ) I just don't see how the team next year will be any good at all. If Stokes doesn't return- we will lose more than we win next year imo and it could get ugly. I just don't see where we are going to be able to get any offense from the returning players. Then we are back to a half filled arena, curtains in the rafters, and poor popcorn sells.

I certainly hope I am wrong -but that's my take and after all - you did ask for my opinion.

The bottom line is that Tennessee is going to continue to get hosed by the zebras unless we get a coach who will stand his ground, not sit over on the bench like a wooden indian. If you watch Izzo, Coach K, etc... they work the officials throughout the game. A close game is almost always going to come down to a pivotal call. That call almost always goes against Martin. He doesn't fight for it. He expects his players to compete, but he doesn't give his all for Tennessee by doing his job and staying on the refs every second of the game. That's just a fact. He is not ready for this level of basketball.

I implicitly agree! Top tier coaches maintain a handle on who's dictating the momentum and balance on the court as well as respect from the zebras. When big mo has gone awry, he'll draw up a play or rearrange their strategy. Technicals are drawn when deemed effective and preconceived X's & O's fill up his hip pocket. These attributes are prominent in CBP's resume...but absent from CCM's. The Vols weren't so much outplayed today as they were outcoached. To not appreciate CBP's superior coaching tenacity is to not understand the game. He's going to be offered HC spots at some notable programs come springtime. I just hope Cheeks & Hart bring him back.

This fan base would just feel a lot better if Pearl was still here because it feels jobbed by the NCAA. That Pearl had one lucky elite 8 run only fans the flames of false hope.

Oh yeah, and I still adore the fact that the SEC finally has had to admit that the spread is a more potent offense than it's defenses can handle.

I hope Martin works out and stays.
If it doesn't work out, I'll be forever grateful of last season's beatdown of UK, which is one thing Martin has done that Bruce wouldn't have.

Right on. Who would have ever thought UT could get to #1 in men's basketball? Unfortunately, our entire sports program is way, way down. The football team is on the mend, but all these consecutive losing seasons suck. The woman's basketball program is a "ghost" of what it was. Since the departure of Pearl, the men's team is struggling. The baseball team is nowhere near as good as they were years ago. Bring back PEARL. We have no means to hire any BIG TIME coach so bring back PEARL and give him a 2nd chance.
