War in Ukraine

So either you agree with me that Russia never had Kharkiv....or...you're trolling, as usual?
That isn’t my assertion Larry. Just like Kyiv they wanted it and couldn’t have it. But they made it into Kharkiv only to get their asses ran out of town. Congrats on winning yet another argument nobody but you were having 🤡

I think Kharkiv will eventually be taken, if they want it (which I assume they do). I wouldn't say they had it a couple of months ago. They had a light presence outside the city that fell back to more defendable positions when Ukraine wanted to make a show of force for social media purposes. As I said at the time, there was no strategic purpose to this by Ukraine...you said they were trying to cut Russia's supply lines which I rightly laughed at. Shocker, they were never able to severe those lines. Now, as Russia has increased their forces around Kharkiv, they are back to surrounding the city and bombarding it on the daily.
So much for them purposefully avoiding civilians.

They got some out, but waited way too late and took far more casualties than they needed to.
Considering you were laughing about Russia capturing all of them with some 10s of thousands over there waiting to be captured it's a failure. Maybe some 2000 got captured, I have seen as low as 200 and as high as 5000.

And your last line is always war. It's never perfect. I guarentee both sides are taking more losses than they needed to.

Fears grow that daughter of 'Putin's Rasputin' killed by Russian bomb (msn.com)

Rogue security agents from Russia's feared FSB spy agency are feared to be behind the car bombing attack that killed the daughter of Vladimir Putin's Rasputin-esque 'guru' advisor, amid mounting suspicions the Russian president's inner circle is turning on him. There are growing fears in Moscow that the attack on Putin loyalist Alexander Dugin's daughter, Darya, on Saturday night was conducted by Putin's own loyal agents amid rumors they want to oust the Russian leader from power.

You want to try and attack credentials, because you can't attack the reasoning I gave. Why wouldn't, in the setup for the last few months, you expect high numbers of casualties for Ukraine? Why wouldn't you expect casualties ratio's to heavily favor Russia in this setup?
Reasons I believe your ratios are off, and I am not saying Monty's are right, I just take the middle ground because I dont trust either sides reporting:

1. Russia supposedly has air dominance but we rarely if ever see air strikes. This says to me things arent going well enough for them to let their air loiter which would help dominate a battlefield and reduce casualties.
2. Depending on which argument you are making they are using conscripts to save their elites for a later fight, or we are seeing the elite troops rip through Ukraine. That always reads as propaganda. Russia clearly has a mix deployed. But apparently not enough of the elite to make quick gains to actually encircle the enemy. The lack fo results plus the day 1 air drops on various air fields says that many elite units have been hurt bad where you dont see mass deployments of them anymore.
3. The use of t62s. I mean come on. You really think they dusted these guys off because they have only suffered light losses?
4. Russia was counting on Ukraine not fighting back and having tons of local help. That has quiet clearly not worked in their favor.
5. The war has dragged out. As the aggressor you never want the war to drag out. Never. You dont want to give up momentum and let the enemy recover to fight again. You press press press. The fact that you call this trench warfare should raise a bunch of flags. That is far far more bloody than more modern fights. And it is for both sides, winner and loser. Yet alone what it does to the civilian population, there are still parts of France abandoned due to the damage from WWI.
