War in Ukraine

do you believe that's the plan or is that the equivalent of "the US streets will run with blood" type commentary we get from ME adversaries?

what do you think it will take for Russia to win the war with Ukraine and then what will they have left to attack a NATO country which they know triggers Article 5?

it's a sales pitch from Zelenski for more stuff

It absolutely was a sales pitch comment no doubt. But this whole exchange started with a purposeful misquote posted by the Hodge Twins on a way more ridiculous claim frankly.

agree with the misquote - didn't believe it which is why I asked if the second was real.

I can just see people buying the sales pitch which at this point is ridiculous. If Putin has a death wish he'd just use nukes on Ukraine now. He's in a stalemate now with dwindling resources - actually defeating Ukraine and controlling then attacking a NATO country which would bring the full force down on him is a much less feasible death wish.

No one believed they'd invade Georgia, they did.

No one believed they'd invade Ukraine, they did.

At what point do we start taking their threats seriously?

Understood.

I don't get the frustration some show to Zelensky. Of course he's going to ask for the moon. He doesn't have any say on if he gets it.

I'm not frustrated with him - I'm frustrated with the people that buy the sales pitch or worse, use it to justify their own desires for this particular theater.

I think at some point we need to understand their aggression doesn’t stop until they are put down. That doesn’t mean they will attack NATO but they’ve got a pretty lousy record to date.

Attacking NATO would likely lead to a death sentence for most of humanity. I don’t see it happening without nukes flying.

when is the last time we put anyone down? what's our record with regime change or fracturing a country let alone a waning super power with a massive nuke inventory. part of why we are in this now is it was our trade to get Ukraine (a stable government at the time) to give up their nukes. What does a defeated (Putin out) Russia look like? can you imagine what we have to do to de nuke Russia?

sucks that there are no easy answers but it's a pipe dream IMHO that we put Russia down with anything short of WW3 and a proxy war through Ukraine ain't gonna do it.

If they think they can get away with it, yes.

Russian propaganda has been waxing poetic for an entire year about "historical Russian Borders".

why would they think they could get away with it?

I'm not picking on you I just think it would make zero sense for them to take on NATO; particularly now that NATO has weighed in to help a non-NATO country.

No one gave a crap about Georgia or Crimea clearly. Even the most ardent "get the band back together" Russia leader knows what attacking a NATO country would mean.

Half of this thread is laughing at how badly Russia is waging this war and how devastating it is to their military and economy - if that's true and they aren't even close to finishing this job how on earth would we think they'll not only finish the job but then take on the big dogs?

just my .02

Forcibly stop their aggression. I was sloppy using a tough talk phrase. They only understand aggression and force obviously

The 1500 troops were invited by the fine citizens and government of the sovereign nation known as Transnistria. Remember, you and others have previously stated you have no problem with invitations. So I'm not sure why the pearl clutching over 1500 troops.

If the ethnic Moldovans and ethnic Ukrainians have such bad lives in Transnistria then why haven't they crossed over to the border of Moldova or Ukraine? I mean I understand completely why they wouldn't want to live in the national socialist regime known as Ukraine. Seems like they are doing just fine in Transnistria.

If leftover Russians in Transnistria want to be Russians, then they should just go back to Russia. Simple. Why is it that expat Russians think others should cater to them? This like insisting the water be lowered rather than the bridge raised - typical Russian thought process - always backwards.

What was misleading????

Zelenski is in a round about way is saying if Ukraine loses the war the US must send troops to Europe to fight and push Russia out of Ukraine.

And how does Zelenski know for certain if Russia wins the the war in Ukraine they will envade other NATO countries?

U.S. Needs to Threaten Russia With Nuclear Strike: Ukraine

Zelenski is trying to set US policy and get the US involved in a nuclear war and destroy the world over a corrupt country as Ukraine.

Biden should have never been talking about Ukraine joining NATO anyway which, as some have said, Biden caused the war.

The Russians and Ukrainians living in Transnistria have lived there for years now. Are you going to apply your same standard to the Ukrainians living there? Should they move back to Ukraine?

Much of the reason Transnistria exists today is because of the rise of Moldovan nationalism in the late 1980s. Which even the Moldovans living in Transnistria wanted no part of.

The people living in Transnistria want to be known as Transnistria. They have no desire to be part of Russia.

China’s secretive investments in Colombia
Adriaan Alsema February 13, 2023

Companies controlled by China’s authoritarian government have been granted critical infrastructure projects in Colombia and plan to expand their influence.

The Chinese government’s increased stakes in Colombia are the result of trade deals made with Bogota between 2008 and 2019, and Beijing’s growing imperial ambitions.

Many of the projects controlled by Chinese corporations were obtained with the help of regional elites and the administration of former President Ivan Duque after a visit to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in July 2019.

Since this visit, foreign direct investment from the Asian giant skyrocketed and thousands of Chinese workers traveled to Colombia allegedly to work on Chinese projects.

Bogota and Beijing have been secretive about the extent Chinese state companies gained control over Colombia’s critical infrastructure.

China's secretive investments in Colombia

Reality: Chinese upper class discovered cocaine, ergo Colombia "investment".
