I’ve always thought that if Ukraine survived this invasion and Russia ceased hostilities that they would get processed quickly into NATO if they desired membership. But it’s idiotic to consider membership in the middle of a war. That isn’t how insurance works.

If you are so worried about peace, why don't you ever push for Russia to make acceptable terms for Ukraine? successful peace is a two way street. The Russians want to push a Treaty of Versailles on the Ukrainians, and then get flustered when it gets rejected. The Russians continue to hold unto bad terms because they don't actually want peace, they never did. Its a useful ploy, but it in no way signifies Russia is willing to negotiate in good faith.
