War in Ukraine

It was obvious many years ago in the nuclear industry that by the time a plant was built the electronics were obsolete. Seemed like you should build the plant and then finish up the electronics as the plant neared completion. You know you need a controller or signal processor, of course, but when you actually build it is somewhat optional. The nuclear industry has it's own specs similar to Mil Specs, and as you know replacing a regulatory approved obsolete component is a lot harder and more expensive than an off the shelf component, so if the plant lead time is 15 years and electronics lead time is 5 years - adjust accordingly. Business and project management types love the critical path thingy, so at least take advantage of it if you're bound to plot it all out.

In military hardware, for example, build the airplane, and keep the electronics somewhat modular and upgradable. Electronics generally become smaller, so you'd think the concept is viable.

The claim is that "sensor fusion" is what makes the F-35 good - it sure isn't the sleek lines; I've read it called the Warrior Penguin and Fat Amy - I'd go with Constipated Stovepipe. What if you could just plug that hardware into other viable airframes - F-22, F-15EX, F-16, and F-18. We have both pulled the electronics out of a computer and stuffed new guts in recently with great results. True, an airframe is significantly different from a computer case; but consider the block upgrades for aircraft and the mods to Ukrainian Migs and Sukhois so they can use NATO weapons. Why not plan for modernization instead of planning for obsolescence.
Yep. By the time the F35 was going operational they’d already started awarding electronics upgrade contracts.

I guarantee that the F-35's replacement is already in test and development. In the 60's and 70's you could build a combat aircraft that would be viable for 30-40 years, but the technology changes so fast now that they can never let up on R&D.

The B-52s are still around based on what AM64 said, because it's so large, it can accept huge equipment upgrades, but the 52 is not survivable in a modern combat role where air superiority is still in contest. What it does have is a huge weapons capacity. Just ask one of the Vietnam Vets in here what it was like to see and hear one of the Arc Light raids. They modified the B-52Ds to carry 30 tons of bombs. Wow.

Let the record show the Russians still haven’t stopped a force of about 60 men within their own borders.
I wonder what their end game is though. Are they hoping more join their ranks? Otherwise this is a suicide mission. Incredibly embarrassing for Russia no doubt but they can't hold out.

The lack of a real response from Russia has me wondering about a false flag. Russia has been "invaded" so that justifies a lot more for Putin.

I hadn't thought about that. But hasn't Zelensky stated they were Russian separatists as well?

I dont think that precludes anything, imo. Russia does have a history of using "separtists" to get what they want in this conflict and to justify further escalation.

Encourage more to join their ranks, even in former soviet states. Spread out the Russian army before the counter offensive. Send a message to Putin's associates that they would be better off to pull back. Claim land to trade later.

I've read some chatter that some expect some of Prigozhin's forces to join. Not sure in any talk numbers though.

To join the russian army or the russian freedom fighters?
The separatists in Russia. My family friend says no real numbers that he knows of. Just some intelligence chatter. This is my brothers friend that knows some people there helping.

I asked again and he says he hasn't heard numbers but he'll ask. Says it's being discussed as a possibility but to remember these are SOF types, but there are many that aren't happy at all with Russia, would fight for Prigo but have no desire to go to Africa.

Edit to add my own thoughts;

I imagine that last part is the reason Prigo's army is reportedly being sent to Africa. Russia doesnt want that intact fighting force on it's doorstep any longer.

Can you add, "day 449 of 3 day war"?

Gazprom says net profit fell by 41% last year Russia says Belgorod attackers driven back to Ukraine via @AJEnglish

  • Russian energy giant Gazprom, whose gas exports have plummeted in the wake of the Ukraine conflict, has said its net profit fell by 41 percent last year due to a tax increase.
The company reported a profit of $15bn for 2022, down from $26bn in the previous year.
In a statement carried by Russian news agencies, the group said, “Profit margins were impacted by an increase in tax payments in the second half of the year.”
Western sanctions have heavily affected the state company headed by Alexei Miller, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin.
Gazprom, which employs approximately a half-million people and has the biggest gas reserves in the world, is one of the key drivers of Russian growth.
