Gazprom says net profit fell by 41% last year Russia says Belgorod attackers driven back to Ukraine via @AJEnglish

  • Russian energy giant Gazprom, whose gas exports have plummeted in the wake of the Ukraine conflict, has said its net profit fell by 41 percent last year due to a tax increase.
The company reported a profit of $15bn for 2022, down from $26bn in the previous year.
In a statement carried by Russian news agencies, the group said, “Profit margins were impacted by an increase in tax payments in the second half of the year.”
Western sanctions have heavily affected the state company headed by Alexei Miller, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin.
Gazprom, which employs approximately a half-million people and has the biggest gas reserves in the world, is one of the key drivers of Russian growth.

Meanwhile in the USA a phone company (AAPL) reported a net profit of $24.16B for the 2nd fiscal quarter of 2023. Enjoy your cup of crude in the mornings Ras.

They must have one hell of a profit margin. I've bought into their ecosystem and own an iPhone, Apple TV's, MacBook Pro and a Mac Mini. It's obvious that the hardware is well built, but the operating system(s) of the various devices just works, and that is worth its weight in gold to me.
Gone are the days of booting the computer up and it slows to a crawl as the operating system uses up 99% of the system to update itself for an hour or 2 like Windows does. No more blowing hot air on my legs when I open more than one browser window. I read a comment from someone the other day that said if Microsoft ever built a vacuum, it would be the only product they ever made that didn't suck.

I really don't under these complaints from people who use windows products. I never have these issues.

Windows is generally cheaper, so yeah if you are spending 500 bucks on some windows product, of course it doesn't run as well as the 1000 comparable Apple product. however you take that same 1000 bucks and buy a decent windows product and it performs better than the 1000 apple product and will have better specs. and if you want/need computing power you want the flexibility of something windows or Lenox based.

updates have never interfered with my windows operation, because when I go to shut down/sleep/whatever my laptop and it asks to update, I just say yes. I believe you can even set it up to automatically do this. that way it updates when I am not using it, so I am never inconvenienced. and because I spend the money for better hardware instead of a better brand it never takes noticeable time to run anything even if it had to.

its just seems a reductive way of arriving at the conclusion that Apple is better than Windows when it comes purely down to a user "issue". not saying you can't prefer Apple products or OS, I just don't get these points as part of a real reason why. I have always seen it as Apple products have a higher floor, but a lower ceiling. but it doeesn't take a lot, or any, nerd skills to get that higher ceiling out of a windows product. 1 incredibly basic thing to do: when done restart and allow update if necessary, will remove most people's issues with Windows, and save you a bunch of money. idk, maybe its just me, but clicking one button to save me 50% doesn't seem like a whole lot to ask.

note that I never said Microsoft, their hardware products are crap, but because windows actually runs on multiple pieces of hardware its really easy to find better than Microsoft computers. throw Dell into the crap list too. give me ASUS brand all day long. heck HP has made a bit of comeback. if you want real cheap Lenovo is probably the way to go. I haven't messed around with an LG or Samsung laptop to know much of anything about them but I would still take those over Microsoft or Dell. ACER is typically up there too, probably my #2. and those are all the prebuilt crap you can find off the shelf at Best Buy. No need to go have a PC built, even though that is far less painful than people make it out to be. and again will save you MONEY and get you an even better machine, that you know will do what you want.

*nerd rant over, PC life*

I usually set up my computer to dual boot into Windows or Linux. Sometimes I like Linux better, but software developers don't always build a Linux version or start the program without using the Linux command line. I learned MS DOS years ago, but the Linux "version" still boggles my mind. On the whole I'm happy with Windows, and the Nazi Apple "you vill do it our way" and screen presentation usually puts me off or drives me into a rage. If I want to create a directory with a name of my choosing, put what I want in it, make it accessible to any program I choose to run, and transfer stuff from another platform to it, then I will do that ... screw Apple and the horse they rode in on.

Yep. By the time the F35 was going operational they’d already started awarding electronics upgrade contracts.
I guarantee that the F-35's replacement is already in test and development. In the 60's and 70's you could build a combat aircraft that would be viable for 30-40 years, but the technology changes so fast now that they can never let up on R&D.

The B-52s are still around based on what AM64 said, because it's so large, it can accept huge equipment upgrades, but the 52 is not survivable in a modern combat role where air superiority is still in contest. What it does have is a huge weapons capacity. Just ask one of the Vietnam Vets in here what it was like to see and hear one of the Arc Light raids. They modified the B-52Ds to carry 30 tons of bombs. Wow.

Interesting that this article came out today. In the last couple of days I've finally realized what the drones and "drone wingmen" are really all about. They are the way to carry more munitions and weapons because stealth designs don't allow the plane to carry external stores. Sorta like dragging trailers along because you can't fit all the luggage in the car. Pretty neat way to sell an overly expensive but not fully capable plane by tacking on a bunch of obligatory (and technologically proprietary drones) to do the extra hauling. Basically the F-35 might be hard to find on radar, but it doesn't carry what a competent non stealth fighter has in bays and hanging under the wings. No wonder we need to keep upgrading B-52s to carry a lot of air launched weapons.

One thing about it, you have to admire Russian propaganda, and how it "makes" problems go away and assigns guilt to the blameless.

Russia’s Defense Ministry (MoD) on Tuesday claimed it “destroyed” a “Ukrainian nationalist formation” that staged the incursion several miles across the border, killing more than 70 fighters in the process.
...
However, that region’s governor on Tuesday warned some residents living near the border not to return to their homes while the “cleanup” operation was ongoing and shelling from Ukraine continued. But he also canceled a counter-terrorism emergency action order (CTO) he issued on Monday after the incursion, an indication that at least the main part of the battle was over.

Russian MOD now says it has liquidated the invaders of Belgorod, killing more than 70 fighters and using artillery and aviation to do it. It said they were pushed back into Ukrainian territory and finished off there.

Hey @Rasputin_Vol, maybe you and the other Putinistas in this thread can catch a ride so you can get to your convention.

Well, crap; so they really were hanging out in Ukraine and "invaded" Russia. Of course Russia claims that part of Ukraine is Russia anyway - guess the Russian propagandists are going to have to declare one way or the other - is it is or is it isn't Ukrainian territory they are claiming to be Russian soil.

Will the F-16s really change the direction of the conflict? Kyiv Regime is losing for now... will F-16s change this?

I noticed how you had to qualify your statement by letting us know "kyiv regime is losing now."

449 days into a 3 day "conflict."

Your desperation is palpable. It's fun watching you and your ilk squirm.
