My oldests soon to be wife's parents are both from Belarus. According to her Putin has become much less popular over the past year and even worse, in Russian eyes, he appears weak.

She expects Putin to do something drastic.

Ask him about his love of Russian eggs. He used to love posting videos by this Russian twerp who'd go to supermarkets in St. Petersburg to talk about how Russia wasn't being affected by sanctions. The videos tended to feature the egg shelves. We ragged on Ras for a few months about how bountiful and delicious Russian eggs were.

Have to admit I've always lusted for certain Russian eggs ... the Fabergé ones.

Probably goes back to the old KGB days. Anyone in the Soviet Union was either too incapable or too scared to question propaganda. Most of the rest of the world recognized it for what it was ... ravings of incompetent madmen. Some of the rest of the world chose to ignore blundering Soviet propaganda, and some targeted by the Soviets fell in line with the average Russian with respect to below average cognition and knowledge. The Chinese are falling pretty much into the same pattern - just doesn't say much for people of little intellect, little knowledge of the rest of the world, and blinded by ideology.

I think the Chinese are in-line with the CCP thinking because they have had their standard of living raised beyond anything they have ever seen. Once someone with a brain takes over the US and Europe and we cut off their supply chain and move it to India or South America they are in deep stuff.

Ironic Putin creates the National Guard to be the counter to a potential coup and now he has a coup on his hands and National Guard units are decimated from fighting in Ukraine.

This was inevitable. Prigozhin has been very vocal recently. This could get interesting.

Civil war in Russia would be the best thing to come of their attack on Ukraine. Talk about something blowing up in your face. We (at least some of us) can only wish.

Or are you talking about Maryville. There was a time when a small group of people out of Maryville had a very large level of influence over the Repub party in Tennessee. They were Howard Baker backers early on, then Lamar. There was also a group of attorneys in Knoxville that had a lot of influence.
